WIP Grimgor Ironhide (SENMM First Attempt)

This is my first orc and my first attempt to do SENMM, i'm painting this for my entry to Spanish Golden Demon 2004, I'm far too sure i won't even enter the first cur, as it's been only one year since i started painting and this miniature is not converted, but as I'm going to the games day (just willing to get my hands on that Archaon on foot) I thougt that it would be interesting to paint a mini for the event, just to share with the people in there. I'm willing to recieve comments ,help and suggestions. I rated this one as a 1, as it's only the axe (and just one face of it, just would like comments about if I got right how to do SENMM), thanks.

AWESOME first attempt, the highlights are right - or rather they would be if this was SENMM rather then NMM. on the bottom edges of the axe blades (down-facing surfaces) i would reccomend tinting the highlights ever so slightly toward the shade of the mini's base - and i do mean slightly. I think the biggest mistake people make when attempting SENMM is going overboard with the tinting - not all metal reflects colour like a mirror, even high-polished steall dulls reflections to a degree. When scaling that effect down it's important to scale the colour tinting as that is part of the effect of scale. to summarise, a lot of people paint small highly reflective surfaces as if it was a larg surface - using the scale of the mini when contemplating reflections of colour aspects(sky and earth) what will really make it pop is having the reflections relative to the scale.... not that i'm a pro at only 6 months experience with mini's(though i do have years of graphic, illust, and rendering under my belt).

You may have finished by now but for what its worth I think the reflections are wrong. The colours are good but the middle 2 faces next to the handle should count as one face and the horizon line should be as though. The bottom edge should reflect all earth and the top edge all sky.Hope it helps.
