WHFB: Chaos Warrior

When thinking about how to paint this model I decided to paint the mini mainly in dark colors, e.g. a black armor with dark red edges, some bronze/copper pieces here and there, dark brown leather boots and cape and so forth. On the contrary I would go for a snow/icy base to create a nice contrast. Oh, and he would get glowing green eyes behind his helmet. For the GW contest I had to convert this model - although the model itself is pretty hard to convert (mainly two pieces - legs and front of upper body are one piece, cape, upper arms and shoulder armor are the second). So first I cut off the sword he normally has and replaced it with a chaos maruder banner. Because he now had no weapon any more I created a big double-axe, again out of parts from the chaos marauders, and attached it to his back using some milliput. The base shouldn't distract from the mini too much so I kept it simple, just some rocks, a 'christmas tree' and a half sunken signpost leading to Kislev - all partially coverd with snow. The snow on the diorama base is some modelling snow normally used for model railroads. It works very similar to ordinary plaster basically. I mixed a thick paste of it and spread this over the base (which I had fully painted, sealed and flocked before) and the tree. Before it set too much I used the end of a brush to sculpt some footsteps into it. After this basic snow has dried for 24 hours I 'painted' it with a 1:1 mix of water and white glue and then poured some of the snow powder directly over it using a fine sieve. After about 40 minutes I turned the base around and knocked off any excess powder. This trick results in a much more natural look on the surface. I let it all dry again thoroughly and then used a soft brush to clean the rocks, exposed ground and such. As the last step I used some cotton buds (?) and a little water to wash away and dust remained where I not wanted it. There is another pic showing just the warrior here (so that you can see some more details then in this pic). Comments are very much appreciated! ;)

The base is a disc of plywood, 10cm in diameter and ~ 4mm thick. I built a frame for the plastic base of the warrior and then used wood repair putty to level the surrounding ground.
