Lesser demon sergeant (repost)

A bunch of first's on this one, my first reaper mini, first attempt at gold NNM, first self sculpted resin cast base and first go at painting lava. I love the look of this mini and had high hopes for it, but it proved much harder to paint than I was expecting, overall though I'm happy with the result. I would usually use purple and orange to shade and highlight red, but I wanted something of a more "natural" colour for the flesh, so I just used black ink mixed with red to shade, which gives a reddish brown colour. The sword and dagger were painted to be glowing white hot like lava. I'm still struggling to get the hang of NNM, but I was reasonably happy with it. The boots were painted using white highlights after a thread in the fora discussing how to paint shiny PVC and leather, it proved rather hard and I'm not convinced such harsh highlights work very well at such a small scale. The base was so I could have a practice at mould making and casting, the original was sculpted out of spackle and a mould made out of RTV silicone rubber, resin was used to cast the base from this. Overall it was fun to do so much experimenting, hope you like it.

I have this same miniature, but I've painted her as as ice demoness, so this is a little shocking for me. ;^) The ratings here baffle me at times. I see people ranking mini's with NO base work as a 9 but this is currently ranked as a high seven? Additionally, there seems to be an unwritten CMON rule that gives a bonus point to anything with tits showing. BTW, I assembled this mini exactly as you did, but I now believe I perhaps should have slipped the boots in behind the wings. Well done.

For all the firsts on this mini, you did a great job. I love that base! If this mini was painted to have the lava as a lightsource, casting a glow on the mini, it would rank a 10 for sure IMHO. Still a very nice job, and a mini to proud of.

This looks great. I have the same model and I haven't touched it yet. Now I have yours as a goal to shoot for. (For which to shoot, to be grammatical). I agree with you about the boot highlights being too extreme for this scale, but the rest of it makes up for it.
