GotB Meltagunner

Here is the meltagunner marine for one of my tactical squads in my DA successor chapter, 'The Guardians of the Blind'. It was my first time painting complex gem style marine eyes, so I am fairly satisfied with them. Please see a larger version of the pic here: http://wolf.mysticdale.com/images/meltagunnersl.jpg And a closeup of the helmet found here: http://wolf.mysticdale.com/images/meltacloseup.jpg I am also starting to get a firmer grasp of layered highlighting, and a deeper understanding of how bright each layer should be to be noticable. Two notes. First, my army is like the 13th Company.. they have broken supply lines, so they sometimes have to use enemy armor (hence the chaos bits). Secondly, all special weapon marines in my army will have grey helmets. Also, I haven't worked out a chapter symbol yet, so the shoulders are still bare for that reason. thanks for looking, and please comment :)

I'm giving you an 8 mainly because this mini rated too low, it really is great, I think armour highlights are very good and I reckon an army painted like this will look supoib!

Hrmm... I'm not sure I would give this mini a seven or even a six. Of course you receive some extra points for your 'conversion work' but it does not seem any more difficult than some minor part-swapping (and what happened to his crotch?!). The paintwork seems sloppy, and regardless of how many layers of highlights you gave to the armor, it appears at places to be no more than drybrushing. Also some of the mini's focus points seem poorly defined - the mini's hands and parts where colors meet are in need of blacklining or extra highlighting. The best parts that I see on this mini are the gun, some of the armor highlights and the closeup-view of the helmet.

Thanks for the comments. I know exactly which color scheme you're talking about, Smashy. iirc, they are "The Violators". I saw them after I had already decided on my colors (and painted several models already)... although mine use a brighter shade of blue. The grey helmets will only be used on the assault/heavy weapons marines, to help single them out from the rest... I am contemplating on painting them silver, but I am worried that will look too gaudy or bling-y, heh.
