Wood Elf Hornblower #1 - Autumn Theme

Inspired by painting the noble for the Thunderbolt Mountain Harbinger request, I decided to paint this very cool hornblower. I decided to go for a brighter green on the cloak and a more autumn theme for the rest of the decorations. His cloak is foundry's phlegm green pallete, the bigger leaves are foundry's orange pallete, the fringe on his cloak is foundry's ochre pallete, and the armor/leggings are foundry's moss pallete. The leather colors were painted with vallejo's beige brown, cork brown, and a cork brown/bonewhite mix. The silver is just silver with black glaze, and the horn is "brassy brass" with silver highlights, black glaze, and tamiya red. I think the color combination turned out pretty good and am planning to do the other horn blower and the banner bearer in the same scheme (the other horn blower has some akward mold lines, though, so I'm not sure when i'll get to painting him--every time I primer him, I find another mold line I need to fix, which means more primer or stripping and re-primering... *whine*). I have been concentrating on improving my layering and highlighting/shading and I hope it shows on this model.

Thanks paintwidow! Most of the credit for this model doing so well should go to Tom Meier for sculpting something SO fantastic! I think I would have had to try pretty hard not to do at least a table top job on this mini.. :) The model is absolutely superb.

An extra point for big improvement in this piece! Wow, he turned out really nice, and congrats of acheiving the coveted 7.x score lol My favorite part of this mini are the leaves on his chest, lovely blending occured here, flawless. I also like the different browns on his horn. His pants turned out great, nice job with bringing the wrinkles out without emphasizing them too much. Very natural, and your best job yet!

Love the colors! Just a shame that the picture is a little dark.
