I have no idea what the "correct" color pattern would be, but I like your choices a lot. I have no advice on the black as I'm going to follow Duende's advice myself. I've had moderate success fading it to grey. Final highlights appear a bit sloppy in the photo but it may be the light. Again, I love the colors.
I like the colors, but the execution of them needs a little work. Try going for a matte finish rather than glossy. And the black areas look flat, I'd rocommend taking a look at Commander Y's stuff to get a good ideas how to bring out black armor. Hope this helps! :)
