Archaon on Foot

Finally finished this one up. I have been working on him on and off for about a month and a half now. I didn't like the way he was portrayed with black armor with red trim and decided to give him a grittier more realistic armor. Armor was based with gunmetal grey (vallejo) and washed with several thin coats of tamiya clear orange, yellow, gw purple ink, and gw brown ink. This was highlighted with chainmail silver (game color) until I was happy with it. Gold armor is based in brassy brass (game color) washed with brown ink, highlighted with burnished gold, and washed again with purple ink, followed by polished gold for highlights. The Slayer of Kings turned out really cool. Base is gunmetal grey washed with tamiya clear green (several coats), Then I highlighted the raised flame markings and the tip with flat green mixed with ivory for a stronger contrast, then I brushed on tamiya clear yellow, blue, red and finally green again. This produced a nice hellish green glow from the sword. I have to of course thank the Artisan for his wonderful tutorials on snow and icicles as they worked out well here again. (my first attempt was my champion of chaos undivided). Base is several layers of cork that was strategically broken to form the rough rocky surface. There are hints of purple, orange, and green in the rock to help give a feel for the chaos wastelands. I entered him into the Storm of Chaos Painting contest at the local GW Battlebunker and won first place with him in the single villian or hero category! :)
