Eldar warlock

My first painted mini, I used the Biel-tan colors from the codex as much as I could, though I think mine is a bit darker. I think it turned out all right. I'm trying to get as many techniques down as possible, so that I can paint a decent looking army.. I used a dark wash on the robes. I started to try and highlight, but that didn't work out so well. I coulldn't figure out what to highlight. I also want to add some lightning looking flashes to the sword, but I don't know where to even start for that. Anyway, any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm

Nice and neat first try. For high lights I found 3 tips useful 1) imagine a halo of light shining down onto the top of the mini. 2) think of a octoagon/stop sign shape. The upper most surface would be lightest, the bottom surface darkest....the three sides will be inbetween. Match the surface of your mini to the side parrallel to the octagon to get the lightness/darkness (read building and painting scale figures by Sheperd Paine) 3) Look at clothes magazines and how the light falls on folds Hope this helps ;)

I have given you 6 for effort. I have found that the best way to highlight is to paint a base colour and then when that is dry paint a darker shade of the same colour which has been thinned down to about the consistency of milk and wash it over the area you want to put highlights on. The thinner paint will run into the folds and recesses of the mini giving you an idea of what parts should be darker than others.Try reading the GW book how to paint Citadel Miniatures that is not a bad starting point and it covers all the techniques you will need to paint your minis.
