This is a good starting point indeed.
The colour scheme of the wings is very nice and attention capturing, but for this you need to make more attention on them, i see some imprecision on the brown cartilage as you had a hurry to finish the model, you need more colour passages too and some highlights imho.
The manticore body is ok, about the rider i think you can do more colour passages on the skin.
I'm not a pro but hope to be of some help.
