VA Marine Washington Redskin
Here is my second entry to the VA marine project. It has grown out of my control :) Redskin For anyone in the USA this is probably obvious, but for others here's a bit of an explanation. American football is played by teams with distinctive uniforms involving helmets and huge shoulder pads. It just seemed logical for a Space Marine. This team is from Washington DC: the Redskins. This guy is #66, which is a defensive position and usually one where the bigger players go, so seemed suited to a space marine (though I suppose a Terminator might have worked better - then a scout for quarterback etc.) The hardest part was probably the helmet. The bottom shot shows that the ridge is actually white line, thin red line, yellow line, thin red line, white line. That's pretty small for putting on the helmet ridge of a 28mm marine. And of course on the side of the helmet is a yellow rimmed white circle containing a native american head in profile with two feathers in his hair, the feathers repeated outside the ring. For me a rather small bit of freehand. Of course there is a picture of a real player for those who aren't familiar with the uniform. I'm super fond of dark reds, but not at all fond of whites, and Redskins uniform is poorly designed to have yellow stripes (and outlines of the numbers) on a white background. p.s. The gun is painted orange with a brown ink wash to approximate the color of the ball
