Elf Character

I painted this is about 4 hours, I love Reaper minis, I assume its Reaper anyways, GW minis really suck to everyone elses, so I'm switching to Reaper for my painting pleasure now.

The mini looks quite good, but the picture is too small to make out all the details that seem to be well done. So the first hint is to post larger images. For 28 mm minis I usually post a front and a back view side by side using all of the available 600 pixel width. Try to use a second light source to avoid harsh shadows on the background. This should also improve his face, which looks flat due to the harsh lighting. Next thing is to get a really matt varnish. The one you use is slightly glossy. The base is ok for a level 8 mini, but I personally prefer to paint the bases black instead of green ( which clashes a bit with the rest of the color scheme. Black is more neutral ) That much for technical details. Your are right about the NMM sword. It is the weakest part of the mini. ( Good NMM seems to be an absolute requirement on CMON. This is something I don´t agree with, but ... ). Try to start with a darker grey as base color emphasize the edges with white. The other details of the mini are worked out well and the painting is clean and precise. I also like the expression of his face. The color scheme is a little to bold for my taste. Red, green, purple and turquoise are too many colours, I usually prefer one main color and one to contrast it and supplement it with subdued colors like offwhite and browns, but that´s a question of personal preference. Overall I think it´s a good paint job, which is underrated due to the photo quality.

O.k guys I need some tips and hints to improve my painting to a level 8. O.k first off the NMM turned out a little week, not enough values. The gold looks fine by me. The skin needs more values, no depth can be seen. I think the colors worked out well, so some tips please. I use magic wash with all my paints, i dilute em, use floor wax and such, maybe i need to push color value? I don't know, so any help would be very much appreciated,
