Mercenary General

I have long admired everyone's work on this site and have been inspired by all the great minis. I've only been painting about two months and this is my first post. It is a Empire Greatswords Champion that I will use as either a general or paymaster in a Dogs of War Army I'm starting. I think the parchment in his hand (army pay-list perhaps?) and on his belt are very appropriate for this! My army will be a rag-tag, ad-hoc force of grizzled warriors - for this reason I've tried to make his armour looks rusty and battle-worn. I would appreciate if anyone could leave some ideas about how i can better achieve this rusted effect. Also, I need some hints on how to paint faces - at the moment i paint a base of bronzed flesh which i wash with flesh wash then highlight. Any better ideas? Again, comments and help are most appreciated!

6.5, I think you are off to a good start the mini looks ok, A few pointers for you, try to thin your paint you will see this comment a lot but if you thin your paint to about the consistency of milk this will give you smoother looking finishes as well as being easier to control. It takes longer but the end result a lot better. Also try to be a little neater in places and if you do go over then go back and touch up your mistakes. You seem to have the idea of shades and highlights now don't be afraid to take them further. Also try to define different areas of the model with a bit of blacklining like around the armour plates, once you have got the hang of it you will see real improvements in your minis. Don't think I am being too critical as I think you are off to a very good start just keep it up and keep practicing with different techniques and you will improve with each mini.
