good solid above-tabletop-quality. I like the color scheme you've selected, it really makes it look like a gritty fighter without compromising its tau-ness. thin your paints a bit when highlighting (like the grey on the gun) and just keep at it.

I think that on the whole you have a good basic grasp of paniting minis that is you have the ability to paint neatly and you have tried out a bit of highlighting. You have started with two of the hardest colours to do this with, I would suggest on the black areas that you try and keep your highlighting toward the edges of the armour plates and keep your paints very thin. The red is good but on all areas you could go a stage or two further with the highlights. It is a very good start and with practice you will soon get better. I hope that did not sound too harsh as it was not intended that way.
