Tyranid Warrior

Behold, the first try on Hive Fleet Sirius, the Scorcher. This is a test model, along with the basing. My first real work of painting. First time washing, layering, high lighting, the works. Constructive critisism is what im looking for, thank you.

This is a very unique and IMHO striking colour scheme, I like it very much. The paintjob's okay for a horde-style army like the 'nids. Well done, keep it up!

Not a bad start. Here's a couple tips: 1. Geneerally, you would want to add a few more layers of highlighting. The simplest way to do this is to layer the paint. You apply the darker base (similar to the brown you used) and you add increasingly lighter shades on top, while living a bit of the previous colour in recesses and places it should be darker. I think you want to go much lighter on this model to improve its looks. 2. Try to add a few more colours to the model. Make the gun a different color than the body and armour (maybe just a different shade of brown). Also, try and make the claws a different color than the tongue or the tubes etc. Just a bit more variety. However you dont want to add too many conflicting colours, as that wont be any better. 3. Reading painting articles on the internet or in books and magazines can really help you improve. I heavily recommend the book by Games Workshop "How to Paint Citadel Miniatures". Its really really good for beginners. (and even more experienced painters too!) 4. Keep practicing :) Practice is the best way to improve your skills, the more you practice the better you become! Hope that helps, and good luck with future endevours!
