Commissar Conversion

Be gentle, this is my first CMON entry. This commissar is a combo of many elements. The head is from the WHFB Empire plastic set of mercenaries. I sculpted on the crusher or peaked cap. I used an armored chest from a Empire Spearman. The legs are whittled down from an empire plastic command figure. I then sculpted on the braid on the chest and the "wings" of the riding pants. The arms are from the Cadian Imperial Guard WH40K plastic set. The Plasma Pistol was cut from a new Marine plastic set for WH40K. I finished off by sculpting on the Hussar Jacket with fur lined cuffs and collar. There wasn't much that wasn't covered in green stuff when I finished. This was more of a planning figure and I intend to add more action and character to the next one. I'm not exactly the best painter on earth but I went ahead and put the brush to it anyway. The heads of the empire plastics seem to be a little small so it came out a little off scale. I also noticed that this guy couldn't see anything if he tried. I'll have to make sure his eyes are at least half visible on the next version. However, compared to my first sculpting attempts lo those many years ago, I'm pretty happy with how far I've come, and with how much more I have to learn. Since I know the paint isn't GD winning by any stretch of the imagination I'd appreciate any comments on the pose, placement, etc. Thanks for looking!

Nice conversion ideas, but the cap looks like a pancake has landed on the commissars head. The pose looks loke a guy who's not to be messed with, but the paintwork could be slightly improved with a few subtle highlights of a lighter colour. I suggest: Burnished gold for the pistol, Elf flesh followed by bleached bone for the face, codex grey for the grenades and a mix of codex grey and chaos black for the black clothes/boots. These aren't all of the stages and only a guideline that I recommend, so feel free to use your own pallette of ideas. Keep it up.
