I just found an awesome technique for shading. It's called blacklining. What you do is go down to a stationary store, ask for a overhead projection marker (FINE). Then you draw between raised and non raised areas like the shoulder pads on sm's. It adds an awesome shadow.
Here it is. Just draw where the outer bit meets the main pad bit:
