A funny thing happened to me at the doctor.

So, I started feeling like crap around Tuesday. So, I went to the doctor on Wednesday. They instantly checked me for H1N1 (Swine Flu) fortunately the doctor told me that I didn't have it. It is just a severe cold. He told me to go home and get some rest. So, I do that. Thursday is a bust because I am sick; cramps, chills, cold sweats, the whole nine yards. Now my wife is showing the same symptoms.I get a call from my wife (Friday) and she is hysterical. She is telling me to get dressed and come back to the doctor. I do have H1N1.I am freaking out as I get dressed. I am recounting how many students and friends did I have contact with. A friend's brother visited from Manitoba and we hung out that Monday night. Did I give it to him?
I get to the clinic and can't find my doctor or my wife. The nurses know me and they start giving me insulin and stuff for my diabetes. I tell them no. I want to talk to the doctor. He isn't in, but I can talk to his partner. I am expecting this guy to take me to quarantine or something. I know I sound exaggerated. But Koreans are taking this epidemic seriously.

I don't have swine flu. Something was screwed up in the translation. I don't even have regular flu. So that is how my Friday started off. How about yours?

My mother who works in the NHS says that those face masks the asians all wear actually is more of a health risk than the swine flu panic itself. As you breath into the mask throughout the day your breath condenses in the material, you then breath in and the air is moistened by the mask. Higher chance of lung problems.

Haven't had a hankerin' for bacon, so I don't think I've had the swine flu yet. *oink*

My Friday is going well so far, *oink*. Went to my son's school for their Halloween parade. Saw a lot of very nice hand-made costumes, so the art isn't lost yet, *oink*. Built a big fire in the fireplace, brought some more firewood in to dry, had my lunch slop from a trough, and then shoveled off the driveway. Looks like the 2' of snow is going to melt pretty fast, *oink*.

I'm trying to piggly-wiggly my way downstairs to bring up some minis to work on. Got family visiting, so can't just go down into the man sty cave, *oink*. Going out to eat tonight, but I don't know which pen we'll be going to, *oink*

dfd: really? i hadnt heard that. as far as i know the swine flu sucks...its not nearly as crazy and stephen king stand worthy as the news made it out to be. but as far as i know from what my doctor told me when my son was hospitalized for it, that it has killed double the amount of people than the regular flu did last year. its also not pandemic killing crazy either. its just a stronger strain and thats really about it.

on another note to this: they are no longer testing for swine flu because the test comes up with an 85% false positive. so if you get type a then you most likely have it. but the doctors arent even sure anymore.

While mortality rates of swine flu are actually slightly lower than the current strains it is actually relatively easily caught and spread. Themain issue currently with swine flu is that it is a strain that we don't currently have any immunity for and so is an extra strain on the health system, especially when health professionals start getting it.

The secondary issue with swine flu is the same as with every other new easily spread flu and that is the possibility for it to mutate into a much more aggresive form. The spainish flu which killed millions actually started as a mild flu and it was until some months into the pandemic that it started to kill in vast numbers.

aye but it is a pandemic though (bear in mind it only has to go from one continent, or even country, before it can be considered a pandemic)

aye but that can happen to any flu. and a flu jab aint gonna help if it mutates (which i reckon it will)

I thought one of the other problems with Swine Flu is that it has more effect on people that are usually more resilient to flu, i.e children and younger people?

also with the spanish flue , one should consider the fact that the people were also weakened by WW1 and the lack of food it brought with it, not to mention those army hospitals full of men and nurses - there´s no better place to start a pandemic

the weird situation here in germany is , that it´s the complete opposite of the one in the US: Nobody seems to really care, and only a handfull of people are willing to take the vaccine ( medical staff and the police are of cause required )

what makes it whorse is, that it turned out that the members of the goverment and the army will get a different kind of vaccine as the rest of the population, one that doens´t contain certain additives - now the german sites are of cause full with critics and conspiracy nuts who believe that this is some kind of evil plan to modify our behaviour

No disrespect to your mom. But they don't wear those mask constantly. Just when they might have to come into contact with other people. It's like saying that wearing latex gloves will be bad for your hands because you wear them to work or a carpenter who wears one to keep saw dust from going in his nose..

Asians have been doing this for decades. Dare I say at least over a century. Now it's wrong? I don't buy it. Not to mention, I have yet to hear of anyone dying from wearing a mask. Just like you don't hear of people dying from wearing latex gloves.

Thanks. I think I have a mild case of it, now. I checked out the information for myself. I had all of the symptoms except a very high fever. I had a 'slight' fever. They are using a strange way of determining it here.

The only problem is that I am diabetic. Most of the deaths are from people who had pre-existing conditions. So I do have a little concern. But I will not freak out.

you should be fine. we have a few diabetics at work, people with immune diseases (rheumatoid) and i have chronic lung problems. we ain't worried and we've had to deal with every one who has come through the hospital with swine flu (they always need a chest xray)

get well soon

My friday was great. The fine arts department at my school had a halloween arts night and I therefore volunteered. I needed a costume so I made one myself- took me about 2 hrs for the main costume, and about an hour for the makeup. And I'm doing it again tonight!
Guess which one is me:
