Did you have to go take all the fun away? Now I can't mock you anymore for not making any progress... :curse: Looks beautiful (in a very distinctly not-beautiful way... you know what I mean)! Maybe a bit heavy on the slime, but I'll hold my judgement until you have cut and tidied it up. Guess I have to do some painting myself then...

That's a GW mini? I assumed it was Enigma or some such! What's it called Skel?

Looking good :good:

In all honesty, (and I know this paintjob is ages old and done by someone who is probably better my miles by now) I think even I could do better than that! Give us a freelance job GW!!!

Wow, nice one Skel, feels like ages since I saw a GW mini that I didn't already know. Almost tempted but the GW site just told me he costs £18.50 (admittedly at an unhelpful 54mm). Think I'll save my pennies for a pack of 20 WWII German Zombies from West Wind for £20 :D (I bought Incusion in the recent sale and am now wondering about Secrets Of The Third Reich).

Cheers, B.

I kind of think GW intentionally uses certain styles for their sample photos. Perhaps it is to give predictable, comparable, and realistic results for the average gamer who doesn't spend a large amount of time painting/practicing?

Either way, the mini looks very good, and is inspiring! Can't wait to see it with the lamp and all that.

I really like the old school 1950's horror movie vibe that you have going here. Really looking forward to the lamp and the osl!!!!!!!!!!:waiting:

That sounds like a reasonable point. I have bought many a model after looking at the insanely good studio paintjob only to remember afterwards that my skills are somewhat lacking in ability to achieve a comparable result lol.

The best solution would be to have a totally insane first class paintjob advertising the model and then have a painting guide on the same page that you use to purchase the model which gives a very easy to follow step by step guide that can be used by people of all standards to get a nice tabletop to good standard of paintjob. Have links to the colours you need as well of course for ease of shopping (not forgetting the obligatory link to glue and brushes of course LOL). Then everything would be covered nicely.

i fully understand gws tactics on mini paintjobs. i feel more like buying a mini when i feel like i can paint it better than the one on the box. they use paintjobs that are smooth, clear and easily obtainable for us human beings! there are exceptions, tho, for exampe the chimaera of storm of magic, or darren lathams amazing nmm blood angels. sometimes the tactic is to make the minis look just brilliant. just as with most successful companies, there are people working with figuring just what tactic to use to sell a product. it´s never gw being lazy or using worse painters. all gw painters can do absolutely amazing things with brushes.

have to disagree here. i get way more inspired by looking at a kickass paintjob than a baaad one. and the inquisitor images at the gw site is beyond terrible. would you buy this ehum... kroot(?) ??

they really need to update these images asap in my opinion, they are good enough to deserve it!

That's looking banging, also reminds of the cold I had last week, grim. Have to agree with the Inquisitor models, some of the later ones looked to be very basic paintjobs.

Yeah, no disrespect intended to GW painters at all, I am sure they bang out stuff as commanded to whatever level they are told. I think my plan of kick ass paintjob to sell model, additional photos of something us mere mortals can achieve in addition to the studio paint job should be shown on the website, complete with instructional painting guide on how to achieve it. All bases are covered with this tactic - wow factor and you are looking after your customers with some useful instructions.

And SkelS - sorry I can't even make out what that is!!!!! Kroot you say, well I rate it 5/10 and you shouldn't use PJ's like that to sell your product, whoever gave the okay on a model that is clearly tabletop standard needs to be shot. I think Gabriel could paint it nicer to, now he's one it's time to put daddies brushes in those tiny little hands....

I really love the whole slime/drool thing youve started on, how did you do that? I just found and bought some Uhu glue the other day at the local art supply store because i vaguely remembered people being able to use it for blood/drool/bodily functions, etc. Is this what you used? Id really love to hear how you did it if you have a moment to spare! :)

Yeah Stefan, some tips on slime would be good. When I have thought about doing I always just thought some fine fishing line and dribble it along the line - pva or resin or whatever the secret gunk may be.......

the slime has been remaked now... and remaked... and.. . but yeah it uhu glue, i sweden we call it "karlssons klister" :) then i gently brush vallejo water effect (sillicone) on it. now i have redone it with vallejo stillwater insterad, much cooler effect creating bubbles with a pipette. images will follow, if the MENACE ever fall asleep here. gaaaaaaaaah

ps dog you give that a 5? id give it a hmm 4 but after seeing that awfull base i consider that was to generous lol.

Yeah its a shame, its a really poor paint job and photo on that kroot. Not inspiring at all, actually probably one of the reasons we dont see very many painted.

Anyway, nice work Skel, really liking where you are heading with the mini, looking forward to the osl.

Thanks Skel! Glad to know i was sort of on the right track. Im going to use it to create an ooze effect coming out of a sewer drain(hopefully) That pipett idea sounds awesome as well, youre chock full of cool ideas, cant wait to see what you do with the rest of this model

Well I did originally put 4 and then I thought I was being too tight so I hit the delete button lol!!! Anyway, looks like you will be heading for another 9+ with this model, looking forward to seeing your scratch banner and the osl of course. I have had a wasted day my DIY projects went tits up today and no painting done (or sculpting).
