Thanks guys. This weekend was busy in a non-painting way, but I got some unexpected help. My fiance, who has never painted a mini ever, got down on one of the zombies. Also, my brother, who hasn't painted in 15+ years and was never big into it to begin with, has turned into a zombie painting machine. He's done like 10 of them this weekend alone. I'll put up pics over in the thread I have in the zombicide subforum. I'll get back to the Grandmother and Artemis soon enough. This quick painting is fun, but I'm itching to finish up those two and start another challenge as a change of pace.

In getting the wings basecoated (I swear they have more surface area than the rest of the mini combined), I ran into an unexpected problem. My plan was to go with white feathers, shaded with brown instead of grey.
But with the one wing brown, I kind of like the contrast the brown provides. So I am torn between going white, or staying brown. Ideas?

Yeah actually the brown looks good, kind of Eagle-like. Powerful, bird-of-prey kinda thing. White is ok, but I think that would be the "common" choice for this piece ( I would have chosen it... :) )

Brown dark at the bottom to a light beige at the top. Makes the eye focus on the center of the mini with its er em eh ....it's just a great big dangly willy isn't it? Any way brown.

What about incorporating the colors of her hair to tie it in with the wings.?

Man - I hate feathers. What a PITA to paint. I am going to stay light on the inside and dark on the outside, but I don't think I'm going to try and incorporate the bands.

I've been quiet, but not idle. I really need to push myself to finish the Grandmother before the 90% disease fully sets in. Friends are getting the word that I'm willing to fancy up their minis for free, and I found myself with this chap:

Yes, he's a librarian, and yes, his armor is red. I asked the owner if Blood Angels followed protocol, and he stated that they did not. Turns out they do, but who wants to paint ultra-smurfs anyways?

On an unrelated note, in a few hours Cang will become (hopefully, have to clear it with the missus) a KD KS pledge (clear the pledge, not unloading a giant resin iguana).

I may not be getting a lot better at this NMM, but at least I'm getting quicker.

After much eye rolling, sighing and general head shaking, I got the go ahead for my KD pledge. The tradeoff was no more mini purchases until at least October. But it's a fair trade, since I've now got 5! Kickstarters worth of minis coming in the next 12 months LOL

Wow!! You really did work a lot since the last time I've been here!

Really like the contrast on the weird mini. I think you did right to stick with the brown feathers.

Lovely reds as well. Don't know where you got the idea that you ain't getting better though ;)
