Pictish Mini Painting

I'm actually a man!
Main work last night was on the banner, done the main block colour to tie in with the red white and blue palette, and a gold effect on the eagle, its not NMM as such, its more to give the gold look to cloth, as real NMM on material would look odd, this is supposed to look over emphasised if that makes sense.

Got the basics of the faces done, with skin and eyes, some tidying under the eyes on 2 of them, then the metal of the augments and hair etc. Getting it all together.

I also got the first issue of a new magazine collection in the UK, star Trek ships, about 12-14cm scale replicas of various ships, some cool interesting stuff coming up like romulan bird of prey new style and the other federation ship Equinox that appeared in Voyager.

I feel the GF may have words.....

Progress done on the last day of my holiday. I coloured the base with greys and modelling powders etc, I still have a fair bit to do on the building façade, with verdigris on the brass detailing and add the broken discoloured glass etc. I completed the standard bearer and mounted him on his base and added a light dusting of the same pigment to his feet and cloak base just to tie him in slightly. Just got the metal parts of the heads to do and give them all a good check for any mistakes, missed bits, parts that need tidying etc. Getting there.

I have almost completed the figs. Assembled the main separate components bar the shield which is still to be finished. After that its a case of going over them all with a highly critical eye for any missed brush strokes, less than sharp definition etc.

The image shows them roughly how they will appear on the holding base.

Thanks folks :)

Really enjoying it and getting my painting mojo back after a bad time with tummy issues.

Very happy with how they looked last night after putting the heads and packs on, brought them together, and gave a good bit of thought to the face position so none are looking straight on apart from the commander.

Hopefully wont be too many teeny little mistakes requiring clean up. The only bit I am not so happy with is the cloak inner on one model, as looks a bit layered rather than smooth blend but it does give the model a nice stand out 'pop' rather than just pale white etc....hmm

Just the base to finish off, verdigris on the metal work, paint the chaos marine helm on the ground, and do the glass, either plane discoulored or stained glass effect..i love a challenge.

Started work on the base, tried an idea a friend had talked about but never tried but i changed it slightly.

He suggested watered down PVA glue, however i found Woodland Scenics realistic water worked best. Paint it on a flat surface over wire mesh used for car body repair (available in halfords in the UK for about £2 for an A4 sheet)

Once this is dry you can paint it with clear colours.

i am using this to create broken pieces of stained glass in the window areas of the ruined building wall.

Works quite well, but will get weathered with black smoke powders and dirt powders :)

Got the scene almost done, some bits n bobs needed doing, cutting out a section of the base slots and making a plasticard platform to lower the standard bearer as he was too high, and completion of the stained glass pieces being placed into the frames. I also added some pieces of the stained glass to the base to make it look more like its been blown out.

I need to shim the commander with some plasticard discs to ensure he is slightly higher than the rest of the miniatures. Final bits and pieces are painting the Chaos helmet on the ground, weather the stained glass and use pigments on the model feet and cloaks to tie them into the scene a little.

Then the fun bit of applying a smear of cataloy (car filler) to the base to then sand it flat as its warped ever so slightly when I used the putty. Then I can attach it to the wooden plinth. Fingers crossed it gets something on the day, a finalist pin would be good as it shows I am still producing stuff to be considered as poss winner. Bronze would be amazing :) but you never know till the day.
