Tim's WIP's

Yeah, a few posts ago when I mentioned the other model just like this one, I was referring to Krull. He's like $200 or something. Anyway, still looking great. You should be very content.

Yeah, inded. That looks amazing. I keep staring at his armour, and then I remember he's got a pretty face as well. :D

My mistake! I do have Krull. It's been a while since I had looked at him, I thought this guy was the same mini. How tall is Malacant? I may have to try to pick one up, seems I can never paint enough big red demons!

Thanks Meph
@ Chad and BFK Krull is a complete MONSTER! the FW bloodthirster is bigger overall but Krull is larger to the eyeline! both are sculpted by the amazing Daniel Cockersell (as is Malacant) and I can't believe the level of detail he has got into these sculpts. Here's a group photo to give you an idea of relative size (not mine ripped from the internet) The small warrior woman is 28mm.

@ Chad yeah. the dagger thing (and colossal price tag) where the only things that stopped me getting Krull. The hand looks stupid!

@ Meph While Mierce do have a good collection of 28mm mini's, its the big bugger's that really interest me. I have the dragon in the spare room waiting to be assembled. I may even get around to it one day!

@ BFK that demon prince sure is a big fella as well. I had no idea until I saw a few photo's with standard marines.

Tonight has been my first bit of hobby time in days. I didn't feel like painting so I thought I'd try my hand at something else to keep me busy.

Ever since I posted the flying citadel picture in Dennis's WIP, I've been going over and over it in my head. That and the painting of Lord Soth and Kitiara are 2 images that really captured my imagination when I was a wee lad. Lately I've been finding my thinking 'how would I tackle that' So I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm relying very heavily on 3 sources of inspiration

Yeah Buddy! I like where this is going! A supporting waterfall would be amazing, but a black rod would work fine too.

Oh, wow, that's already a very tempting teaser that...

Big dragons... reminds me... I've got Cang The Implacable lying in a box on a wardrobe in the bedroom. He scares the hell out of me...

Interest level: Hourly updates required

i too am such a fan of 90s TSR art. Literally inspired me through my early years and teens. Lord Soth is one of my favorite all time characters. I mean, the idea alone is great, but they made him look so cool. If I could get Stephen Simon to sculpt absolutely anything, I'd have him do the vision Inhabe if Soth. I'd go with his classic look worth the purple cloak and closed helm, but I'd just go overboard with details in his armor. Make it a gothic set with roses carved into its surface as well as a bunch of other designs. A huge claymore sword of epic proportions. I'd pay hundreds for such a commission...

but yes bro, you got the idea with the base. Build up around it with cork and bark if necessary. If you look at a project Sprocket did, called Jason or something, the base has this giant rock on it. Turn it upside down and that how I think your flying base should look.

Thanks guys :)

@ Demi I'm going to try to support it via waterfall but i'm going to see how that goes when I get to it

@ BFK If money was no object (or I could convince my wife we didn't need to eat for a month) I'd commission a 54mm Soth from Daniel Cockersell. The very idea of it makes me do a little wee of excitement! To be fair though the new Jute from Mierce would make some incredible Death Knight proxy's. I'll have a look at sprockets WIP for the base but when it comes to painting I was thinking of trying the colour palette of the TSR artwork. the Purple under lighting with the strong side light is striking.

this one in particular (notice the name of the sculptor :))

You guys all of you have a brass.. no a platinum pair of nads you guys jump in he'd first with these tough projects...I'm feeling cheated when I sit down to do a simple model or even a simpler bust when I come on your guys page I see floating island broken brick walls demons that are the size of forgeworld dreadnought 20 inches long...I need to up my modelling game but I need to be honest it isn't going to be any of this stuff. Simply put my nads are much smaller set of stones boys .

Cang would look awesome on something like that!

I want to do a dragon flying, supported by his fire breath!

Quick, where's Wargamesculptor???

@BAM: Scratchbuilt Ork Stompa in your future???

Cang on a floating island... wow, my mind shrivels into its shell when thinking about that. Or not.. Challenge accept... no not yet. That assembly would be 60-80cm high. It woud be most impressive to see, either dominating any cabinet it's put on, or quite simply demanding its own pedestal to raise it to viewing height, rivaling any Ming vase in its majesty.
Hmmm i think I'll need to receive my pension 30 years early in order to have enough time to finish it. So my options are to either win the Euromillions lottery this week and buy pockets large enough to stuff 162million € in, or threaten my boss to give me my full-pay pre-pension 30 years early, American Beauty-style.

Sorry I've missed your thread until now, a quick progression in your painting was something to behold. Did you ever finish the first piece you showed ?
Thanks to Digga have now seen the comment about flying dragon breathing fire and now working up some concepts

Hey guys sorry for not replying sooner but after visiting GD 2014 I decided to grab 2 weeks holiday.

GD was amazing. The level of painting that was on show was incredible. It was fantastic to see 10's, Skel's, Rick's and Sprockett's entry's in the flesh, even if I didn't get to meet them in person. I think I learnt a lot from the day and hopefully in the long run that will make me a better painter.

@ BAM Are those platinum nads TMM or NMM I wonder? And I'm sure your's are just as shiny (if not more so) And the Stompa sounds like a great idea

@ Meph Kang would scare the ever living s**t out of me as we but him on a floating island.......just yes. instead of American beauty style have you coincided Fightclub style 'I am Jack's complete lack of surprise' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhtrmebhqfw

@ Digga and WGS I'm really chuffed that comments on my thread has kick started both of you down the path of dragons! it will be great to see how you both come at the project. I love Dragons, always have. If I had to pick a look that optimised what a Dragon is to me it would either be Vermithrax Pejorative from Dragonslayer or the Papa Dragon from Reign of fire. My only problem with both is the lack of front legs! if you can model your designs similar to these classic beasties I'd be a very happy camper.

No progress to show but I'll get back to it now i'm back

Laters
