Hello there. Painted a few years ago and I decided I needed a new hobby. So I bought some paints and brush's and started up again.

Got my first Bust the other day and I have started it out. Looking for opinions. It feels like Im missing something. I just cant put my finger on it.

Awesome bust - looks a really cool sculpt. For the painting I think your colours are good, but the application is a bit heavy handed. On the chest muscles it should graduate from dark shadows to light highlights, but you look like you've got two colours on there - one dark base, one highlight - and the jump between the two is too stark. The same is happening on the cheeks and below the lip. On the plus side the eyes are good, so it looks like your brush control is solid.

Hope that's helpful - I'm pretty new round here, so these are things I've had to learn myself recently!

oh: and welcome aboard. :)

Thanks BGC. You are correct i have only done 2 shades so far. I am still learning the finer points of shading/blending. Added a little more last night. With me the painting is a slow process. :) It takes me a few weeks to finish a single project.

Hey that looks awesome! Fixing the sideways photo will depend what you are trying to fix it on (PC, Mac, Phone, Tablet) I know on my mac I can rotate images when I preview them and my girlfriend has an app on her phone which does the same. In general you need an app or program to do it.

Dr. Bob

but not THAT Dr. Bob
Your images look right-side up to me on my iPad, except for your last two uploaded pics. Weird!

It's just a problem with the programming language that's embedded with the pictures and the language reading them here on the forums. You have found the solution for yourself, already. ;)

Maybe making his eyes a fierce orange gives him a nice punch, on the other hand knowing how difficult eyes sometimes are, if you like what you actually have don't even bother ^^'

I was thinking of doing some GLOW around the eyes with the green to make them stand out. Once I get to that point.

Ok, So I picked this little guy up for 5 bucks because I wanted to play around with the armour. I need some advice.

What can I do to improve on this? I havent finished the face or arms yet. I have basically been just playing around with the greens on the armour.

Opinions?

Your greens are getting muddy, how are you shading them? You seem to go from a bright yellow/green down to a muddy brown/green and it's killing your contrast (which could go higher too). Try using purple to shade your greens so you don't get muddy and you can control the contrast better. What did you want the armour to read as?
