I've not been too great for the last couple of weeks. I was off work all last week with flu and now I'm signed off work this week because the flue has triggered a bad flare up of my asthma! I've been put on steroids and they finally seem to be having an effect so fingers crossed.

As far as painting goes I got off to a great start on the plaguebearer champion and was making lots of progress before the flu kicked in. Since then I haven't had the will or the whits to pick up a paint brush. All very frustrating when I've so much 'free' time on my hands. I'm sick to death of daytime TV!

Here is the Champion as he currently stands.

I hope you feel better soon! Your work is beautiful as always. I especially like the lines you've put in to accentuate shapes and give texture.

Hope you get better soon. As always the mini is stunning though I'm not sure about the tentacles going back to green, something about it seems off

David you have caught plague of the nurgle brothers. :)

Tip top painting as usual. Maybe a black wash between the teeth / open mouth to increase contrast and visual the impact of the face?
(see I can talk like a pro when I want to LOL)

Get well soon, sir. Love the paintwork as always. Agree about the tentacles: maybe pink into cream? I'm sure you'll nail it.

If I was doing this one, then I would be awfully tempted to add some GS to the bunch of heads in his hand to make it look like a shopping bag, keep them all green and stencil 'waitrose' on the side. :)

Mmmm I'm thinking of reading these forums with a mask, since it seems flu is spreading.... LOL

Seriously I hope you feel better soon.

Your work on these is ace, I do not normally like nurgle beigns, but you make them look awesome. Also that skill of drawing lines as if they were sculpted parts of the miniature (as Archarad pointed out) is a great tool to have.

Hope you get better soon! Love following your WIPS they are truely insipiring. The champion is just amazing. I really love the bold contrast and stern look.

A quick question if i may. How do you avoid the chalkyness of the scale 75 - it seems like it behaves diffrently on your models than when I work with it. Propally a skill thing - but if there is a trick I would love to know about it :D I really love how you use the colors and get that much saturation out of them while maintaining a flat look.

Thanks Guys, Flu is the pitts but it's getting better. The asthma is the real problem now as I don't get more than three hours sleep a night.

I agree, I need to revisit the tentacles and adjust the colour. I'm going back and forth a lot on this mini as the colour scheme develops to adjust the overall red/green ballance. As bgcdazzle said maybe from pink to a paler cream tone will work.

I hadn't noticed untill I saw the photo but it does need it. I hardly use black (or pure white) but every now and again they come in useful for the extra contrast.

Get well soon....but it seems every time you work on a Nurgle mini you get sick? Hmmmm...coincidence?..lol :)

That hasn't gone un-noticed by me!

The scale colour paints are quite prone to looking chalky when highlighted. One thing I do is use ivory (vallejo) for my highlighting rather than pure white but the biggest help is glazing. I almost always over do the highlights but then go back over and glaze with mid tones. This knocks back the chalkyness and pumps up the saturation. I dilute the colour right down and build up very subtle layers of delicate colour untill I'm happy with the effect.

Dave are you sure there is no link between you being ill and painting the Nurgles?

Im betting when I see you next month you will have four horns on your head !

Excuse me while I just look on in awe. (And a small bit of jealousy). I love the Nurgle style and you do it so well.
