This is bull$%*t, Skel. You just casually decide that Machete isn't quite so fastidious any longer and voilà: you're amazing at NMM. These chaos dwarves look really cool and stylish. I think the fact that they are so unusual puts them (and you!) in a great position for competitions. I can't wait to see the entire unit.

hey TMM still rock, but im feeling a non metal flow right now. it looks way better when the miniature is all metal like these tin cans. and for sure its easier to photograph properly!

i was initially thinking about it Persifal but im not sure, perhaps if there is lots of time leftover at least i think i will do a careful wash or two with the red glowing pigment on their shoes to unite them with their bases just a little.

anyway thanks folks, super happy you like them. now ive finished the blue demon so everything is set for duke, and i can fully focus on these dwarf chaps.

Yea, it is not necesarry to make osl too intensive, just add red tone to the bottom of the figure. It looks too separated now. GL

Yeeeeah nope, nmm still don't do it for me. That said, the choice of chaos dwarves was a really smart move. They really work well with your "dark" style.

So, since you have now done a fair amount of nmm, what would you say are the pros and cons of each of the techniques, tmm and nmm?

been a little off painting lately, jr being sick draging down the whole family with him (nothing serious though, just the ordinary bugs).

finn, as i think i wrote above when painting miniatures mostly just metal i think NMM do better, i did the first champion dwarf in true metal first and i just didnt look good.
otherwise i think TMM is mose effective in my painting as i paint dark and sparkling shiny silver make a nice contrast.

NMM is easier though, especially to get different metal colors. and faster to paint! that said, i will always prefer really good TMM to NMM.

It's interesting you say that, most tutorials I've read say that tmm is the quicker and easier method. A lot to do with the shininess of the metallics hiding any mistakes. I suppose there's a difference between amateur metals and what you do though!

I think those tutorials tend to be on the scale on old eavy metal tuts and that is where many people start then they see some of the nmm out there and go wow I want some of that then they drift back into TMM using the skills they got from doing nmm and then wobble back and forth depending on the mini.

I for one love nmm but will do TMM with a big figure as nmm would be very labour intensive for that also the natural shadows on a large mini plays well with TMM.

In my humble personal opinion, NMM can look incredibly awesome on photo as it really comes across as a good illustration, rather than a miniature realistic version. A good NMM can appear to have leapt out a Franco-Belgian comic/graphic novel/strip.

TMM can either go the ultra-realistic way, or the stylized-realism way. (Game Of Thrones vs 300 or Sucker Punch)

long time no update but i finished chaos dwarf #4, lousy proof picture below. i would lie if i said that i feel much joy beginning with the last dwarf which is the hero miniature, the dwarf that only can be bought at wh world. i got so much inspiration after the duke of bavaria show, and sadly that do not involve painting GD entries.

i was able to get a bronse in master painting at duke, i did some tactical errors at fantasy painting like parking my miniatures in a dark spot right beside the BoS miniatures and not much would improve the judges after seeing that display lol. anyway the show was nice, but im starting to wonder how long its going to last. last time i was there (2014?) i think the amount of entries was about double. it has become a very small show.

anyway the dwarfs #3 and #4. tin cans, nothing fancy the banner pole is still not attached, obviously.

Congratulations at that bronze and hoping the best for that contest to not disappear.
It's pretty amazing how you pull out NMM, it looks shiny and even easy LOL.
I find it overwhelming, specially with this full armoured dwarfs that are full of very different shapes. And indeed you make them look credible and shiny like true metal. Thank you for sharing your work.
