I think this is because the Legacy Miniatures were never meant for gaming, but rather for collectors and painters.
And of course they want us to buy their new figures :)
Square bases also keeps the door open for a possible refurbished "Ragnarok" expansion which was regiment based.
An old-time Confrontation fanatic like me, I'm really looking forward to the...
What's the purpose of those expensive boxed sets? I mean, I'm very interested in a Drac Mac Syro, or one of the undead Gargoyles, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on other miniatures I don't...
I'm happy this first competition went well, with some room for improvement of course, which is normal. I'm sure the future for Crystal Brush is very bright! Now already a lot of people were talking...
You're already using a primer: good. Too high or low temperatures when spraying usually result in a bad finish of the primer: grainy, glossy. Another important thing about primers it so shake them...
Almost all pictures are over-exposed, looks like the camera is left on automatic and is having trouble with the black background.

Still haven't made the time to submit my entry for the CMON Annual 2009. Anyone knows what the deadline is? Thanks!
read it on my blog: http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com/2010/09/review-coolminiornot-annual-2008.html
Peter!!! Good to see you're still painting.
Both miniatures are great, but Kara's bandana is my favorite bit: the colors you used there are really very well done.
Take care!

I recently reviewed these figures on my blog: http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com/2010/06/review-red-box-games.html
I think these are great miniatures and want to know what you think of the...
Well mine wasn't wrapped in bubble wrap or anything else... It was bare in the cardboard box apart from some foam cubes to fill up the remaining height of the box.
I received mine last week. Didn't really have the time to browse through it entirely but it looks great so far, well worth the money.
I'm not really happy about the packaging: the simple cardboard...
looks very good, nice price too, congratulations
silly question: why is this the 2008 edition? Are there any plans for a 2009 edition soon or do we have to wait until 2011? :)
Thanks for putting me on track for this everyone.
I don't know the exact name, but I hope you understand what I mean. I'm looking for one of those revolving desktop storage things for paint bottles, typically for Vallejo.
Anyone knows where I can...
The best free e-zine on miniature painting ever.
looks nice and clean, great job!
Finally finished them :)

Finished the faces... please note I\'m going for good gaming quality instead of showcase for this project.

I think something similar to the concept art, silver and gold armor, with green shields and red details.
Well the blog post I mentioned has more details as well as pictures of the sprues: http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com/2009/08/preview-mantic-games-elves.html
And like I said in the post above: 7...

Since their first release will be Elves (being...
In the past 2 years I didn\'t really painted anything up to showcase level: mainly did gaming and medium quality stuff, so this is really getting used to again :)
Some areas can be improved: the...
I just had the same experience with a Rackham mini. But you know what\'s so strange about this? The last remaining work in which you usually loose your enthusiasm takes only a few hours to complete....
This looks very nice, great idea, good colorscheme.
This army will look amazing when finished.
Voted.
I think the hair is very well done.
A lovely army, very well done.
How did you make the mushrooms? With green stuff?
great article
but I wonder: how long does it take to make 20 cm of this?
NMM hardly needs any shading... just some blacklining along the edges where it meets other surfaces.
Thanks again for all the tips. I noticed Dragon Forge before and yes, they are cheap.
What about casting your own plinths? I tried to google it, but didn\'t get any useful results.
Anyone tried...
Great work, I know how small he is :)
My only point of critique is the inside of the hat lacks some shading IMO, it\'s a just the dark brown basecoat that seems to be showing.
Bigger pictures will certainly help, but from what I can see it\'s too dark (a common mistake which I also made in my first attempt). The basecoat has to be A LOT lighter.
Also your highlights are...
Hmm haven\'t thought of that.
Other alternatives are also welcome.
GW got me into the scifi-fantasy side of scale modelling, I did historical before that.
But I think the biggest impact was caused by a combination of the beautiful Rackham miniatures and being...
I want to buy a batch of display plinths to base all my showcase minis on. This shouldn\'t be too expensive, the plinths shouldn\'t be painted. I think resin is the cheapest material? A basic shape...
Looks like you are aiming for exactly the right quality level for a batch of figures like this.
What I find interesting is that you didn\'t attach them to the bases yet, something I usually do...
I was also thinking about pigments, thanks for the help guys.
Irregular magazine is amazing, keep up the good work ;)
I\'m curious about this Cadian commission you are tweeting about.
Check out this entry: http://www.coolminiornot.com/224667.
I want to know how the ground cover has been done. It looks like some scatter material, but I think it is painted.
What is it?
When I want to create a glaze, do I have to add only glaze medium to my paint or do I have to add both water and medium?
I\'ve starting using Twitter a while ago and it\'s real fun! At first I thought it wasn\'t really necessary to have a blog and Twitter, but it\'s really a good platform to share short status updates...
fantastic stuff
can you please tell me how you did the dirt effect on the Valkyries?
It looks more like an orange red to me. Check out Vallejo Model Color\'s line, I\'m sure they have something similar.
I have two limited edition figures for sale.
If you\'re interested in one of the two figures, send me an offer by PM. All offers in EURos please. Minimum offer for each figure is 15 EUR (I will...

When I was still doing scale modelling and I had to paint deser camo I always painted on something like the first image of those google images results. Easy as hell and looks great.
Good to hear a lot of big companies are interested.

I bet I\'m too tired, and it\'s too dark here too... better try another time :)

My score was 42 (lower=better). I had some trouble around the blue area.
I\'ll try to keep it short, here\'s what I use and why:
Vallejo Model Color: huge color range, good consistency, lots of colors seem to match (earthtones). Metallics are very poor.
GW: superior...
Yeah Tarantula\'s are now produced by Forge World so you will find the rules in one of their books.

I have someone to buy the brushes for me today. They\'re probably not suitable for miniature work, but I can always use low-quality brushes for terrain stuff or to apply glue etc.
Let\'s hope...
Cool they\'re selling them in Belgium too ATM :) Thanks for the tip.
I don\'t really understand what you mean by \'Shapers\'. Are these brushes or some kind of sculpting tools?
yes that\'s it: too much paint on your brush.
Great painting, you\'ve obviously put a lot of time in this.
The base is great too, but I think it\'s a bit too good. What I mean by that is that the entire setting isn\'t really balanced. Your...

After a small hiatus I\'m once again returning to the hobby in full force. My previous online activity, in the shape of Pendragon Studios, has come to an end (basically lost interest in the concept...
haha cool
paintjob look ok btw
sold!
This miniature was exclusively available at Mini Art Con 2008 in Germany. The figure comes in its original packaging and is untouched.
If you want to buy this miniature from me, please send me a PM...
yes it seems that several colors have been used for the drybrushing as well as the shading
I think this won\'t qualify as a duel in a Golden Demon competition, simply because the two miniatures aren\'t fighting each other. I remember that story from a guy who got disqualified for that. His...
these look awesome and very well priced
what\'s the shipping cost for these to Belgium?
I agree. Celestine has some pretty small details, which are invisible in the small picture.
Having seen those miniatures IRL last weekend, I must say Masquerade has improved a lot over the past few years. This stuff can easily compete with the new French releases such as Hell Dorado
You can view the page at http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/content.php?3130-masquerade-miniatures-news
the rust effect looks awesome
what about that chaos guy? is he supposed to be unconscious? Then it seems there\'s still life in his neck, because his head is positioned like he\'s standing...
some of the stuff that helps me to keep painting:
I switch between gaming quality and showcase miniatures every now and then. Right now I painted some 40k gaming stuff for the past few months and...
fluff-wise I\'d say every warrior is responsible for his own warpaint, so there might be some variation, although I\'d stick to the same color for the entire unit.
what is this? some kind of cleaning product?
The overall painting (and especially the blending) is very well done and the base is good, so this mini is surely worth an 8. But I would vote a 7 (or even a 6 if I didn\'t take much time to study...
yeah Eldar armour is usually painted in a very bright color and looks very smooth, but your approach really works!
You also asked for feedback on your photography. I think it\'s very good! Maybe...
I also like the overall, dark atmosphere of this miniature. It suits the 40k universe very well.
My only point of critique is are the metallics on the sword and the rifle on his back. This looks...
a lot of effort has been put into the bases, and it was worth it
about the colors: green and brown always work :)
good job
I agree with everything that has being said, but I want t o add one more thing. Try to create some kind of \'brand\' from your painting service. Of course this has to do with name recognition, but it...
probably because relying on a painting service is so expensive :)
What I find very interesting is the amount of people who say they rely on a painting service to get their miniatures painted. In my direct environment (local gaming stores etc) this is still...
I don\'t know about the W&N brand, but I\'ve seen people use acrylic paints from a tube for miniature painting. From what I\'ve heard those paints are fine enough for miniature painting and are...
Good painting, but still a lot of room for improvement. As said before the areas need to be defined in a better way.
Another point for improvement is the picture quality. Overall the lighting is...
very good idea and well executed
my only point of critique is that some of the sculpted areas (like the \"shoulders\") could be a bit smoother
great work again
if you bring this one to GD Germany, it won\'t fit in any of the display cabinets :D
yeah, prime it is the only thing you should do, really...
only be sure the bark is completely dry before you start to incorporate it into your bases
I switched the title and the URL

That date in June wasn\'t the best for us both: I was on holiday and Jasper was having exams. Hopefully it will be in May again next year so we can be there again :D
I added some scratches on the orange/brown regions, but not on the rest of the armour :~(
If you have any good tips on how to paint on scratches on white armour I would like to hear them. I...
wow that white mask makes this mini look very cool
I don\'t really like the way you highlighted the robe: from black to red and then to orange, but it looks very good from a distance.

yeah I use Vallejo Model Color and that white is indeed quite difficult to keep at a good consistency. I always have to keep adding more water, and a bit slow-dry too keep it thin enough.
But the...
Hi Michael! :)
Good work on the miniature, nice choice of colors, and the armour and cloak really look amazing. But the metallics look a bit rough to me...

Cadmium Maroon is one of my personal favorites. It\'s the perfect basecoat for , red brown, leather and red, and I also use it to shade skin :)

something along the lines of Hasslefree\'s Harem girls? :)
I thought there was a thread here somewhere that discussed that mix of primers. I believe one of the french guys (Cyril I think) used that technique.
No problem :)
Could you maybe tell us what you\'re working on ATM, what we can expect in the future from UltraForge? I really would like to paint up some of your minis, but I\'m not a real Nurgle...
I absolutely agree with this.
At first I didn\'t want to respond to this thread (because it has been held before and actually isn\'t really a discussion because everyone has his own preference),...
faster ???
when basecoating flesh I use two layers of skintone on a white primed mini, and four on a black, so you make the calculation :)
or maybe I\'m doing something wrong :D
Sophia,
you\'re one of those very rare talented people that both master sculpting and painting.
Good luck with the shop!
@Stef: those skintones look very neat. I really need to get that model sooner or later :D
brokenblade, that looks really cool :D

I especially like the white armour, but the picture quality disappoints me a bit.
I\'ve recently used black, but I try to avoid it as much as possible. Things like painting fleshtones over black is a real nightmare IMO. Even after 3 layers it still doesn\'t look smooth :(
