Thanks All. I'm happy to say that Draco places 3rd in the bust category at a local IPMS show here in Ontario.
On to the next one.
All done. Comments welcome and appreciated.
Thanks All. I've got to push the contrast and highlights a bit more on the cloak. The picture isnt the best but there is still work to do. Cheers all.
Really been a while since I've posted. I find it's often much easier to post via Facebook or the like.
Here's a bust I've been working on lately. W.I.P.
when i would make my dioramas/vignettes, Shep Paine was a great resource. He focuses on how to layout a scene. You can find his books, or perhaps snippits of his work online.
Personally, i think that this base is too cluttered for this model. You have a lot of stuff going on in it. And the size of the structure, compared to the size of the model have them compete...
If I may offer some constructive criticism, the layout of the three bombs. Is the one facing downwards supposed to have crashed through the structure and was a dud? If so, there likely wouldn'd...
amazing. so good.
This looks great! keep it up!
incredible work! love it!
Just sent a PM
Is this being released by anyone?
Thanks KB. It's not perfect, but they're 35 mm? - ish? And for gaming too. :)
good old rackham
I've been trying to stay active and began some side work on some gaming figures for infinity. Lots of fun, but lots of tartan. Hoping to get a decent force together for a current online campaign.
Thanks Fox and Kuribo.
Ive taken your advice and added more red into the cheeks. I had done it before, but you both confirmed it got lost in the blending. It'll give the stripes a try next as...
Next up is the face. Not my strongest skill and it's my second kick at the can with it. Luckily it's a small area but it's still missing something to tie it all together. Comments and criticism...
Give it time. I find that sometimes, one off posts are slow to garner comments. Post WIPs for yourself, the comments will come.
Its looking good so far. As you said, it's very early WIP. ...
Cheers BAM.
For those not familiar with the man and his coat of arms, this is how he will be painted.
You can order the goblin from Mr Lees Minis
Well I ended up doing what I had hope I wouldn't. I'm on to another project.
Inspired by Bailey's crusader, I thought I'd work on a Knight of my own. This is an old 54mm New Hope Design based on...
Thanks Coyote. Keeping it short and sweet for the rats, but I'm enjoying the AoS sculpts.
Thanks Kuribo
I managed to knock off another rat's flesh and fur. Still have a bit of touch ups and details to add, but otherwise I'm satisfied with it.
Im leaving all of the armour and...
It looks good. I hear you with the highlights. Here is my pre and post airbrushing. Granted it was my first time ever with an airbrush but I can see how his technique works. Needed more highlights...
Thanks frzn.
I'll admit, I have tidied the lines a bit on the bust. The problem with using Sergios technique on the bust is that the face is fairly "full" and there aren't a lot of obvious...
Howd your barbarian turn out?
While I'm waiting to get fully set up with my airbrush, I decided to put the bust on hold and I'm now moving along with the Skaven troops from Shadespire. These are my first Warhammer pieces since...
It fits my style of painting, but needs an airbrush to tie it all together. Keep following his Patreon and try to take a course of his. He's a super nice guy.
I did the Toronto weekend with Sergio. Prepare to be amazed!
Hi All,
im back with a new W.I.P. thread as the last one started to get a bit disjointed. I'll try to keep this one a bit more organized and a bit more up to date. I haven't been completely...
Very nice work.
order received. 4 of 5 items delivered. Now I'll process a ticket for a refund as I havent gotten one yet.
Ironically, the one item i didnt receive was the item with the most stock of all my...
Start a WIP thread in the Work In Progress section. People will post and comment and add critiques as you paint so you wont have to wait for the finished product for tips.
Looks pretty decent...
Wow. Not promising at all.
So relatable.
When this happened to me, I put in an online ticket and someone got back to me saying it takes around a week. But i had to request the refund.
Out of curiousity, what was missing? (my online...
I'm assuming my order is following the first money in, last package out system. Fingers crossed i get shipping notification by Friday.
I did the exact same thing. All of my orders had well over 20 pieces left at time of order, one had 95. I rolled the dice on a single piece with 2 items left that, based on previous experience, I...
Nov 27, still waiting. Dec 11 is late to this game.
Welcome back!
That's what happened with my last order from CMoN. Even my receipt stated that all of my items were shipped, yet only half were in the box. I was refunded the missing items, but I likely wouldnt...
I also ordered on the 27th of Nov. Got a response asking for patience as well. The deals I got make up for the delay, but based on how fast things were selling out, I just hope that all of my...
Use the Support button at the bottom of the Shop page. I think they are back logged. I typically receive an email within a day or two, but im waiting on just under 3 weeks since i placed my order.
You are on the right track. See it to the end. I really like how its looking.
Nicely done Octavian. Pants look great.
Did some work on the pouches and blocked in the backpack.
Really cool miniatures and im looking forward to the other figures I have to paint. Focussing on the Caledonian sectorial so there will...
Coyote: thanks for the kind words. I've come to enjoy painting tartan.
BAM: thanks a lot. The bases are my own creation with the intent to put them into production. I'll cast them myself and...
Started getting into Infinity.
Started throwing these together. Planning on sets of 10
Cheers folks.
BAM, are your sci-fi bases (like on your Genestealer Cultists also premade scenic bases or did you make them yourself.
I'm specifically talking about bases geared to the...
Just a general inquiry for those of you who use purchase scenic bases for miniatures.
What do you look for in a base? Style, genre preferred?
Next project. Have to finalize the plinthe and prime him.
Thanks KB. Just finishing off the last few casts to send off, and I'll get cracking on the Dust Bowl Farmer. Its keeping me on my toes and helping to push my skills. Going for worn denim and...
Thanks Coyote.
I'm flattered how highly you think of my computer skills. Considering all of this has been done via phone, but I'll give it a try.
Thanks for the feedback. :)
*look at it via mobile device... looks way better. :)
Cheers TBS. I got the same feeling for it. The red and blue add to the aristocratic feel.
I'm pretty impressed with myself. Knocked off a couple busts within a month or so. That's a new record for me.
Here's Broken Toad's White Rabbit.
Comments welcome.
Added some more shading, texture, and highlights to the mask. Calling the mask done. Blocked in the jacket colour as well. This will be dirtied and distressed. I'm thinking of painting the lapels...
Thanks Coyote. I hope to put a bit more time into it tonight. Dirty him up a bit.
Welcome back. Nice start to the base
Looks good so far. Keep up the good work
Thanks JR. I appreciate the kind words.
While I'm at it, here will be my next bust, also from Mollie's Miniatures.
This is a farmer during the Dust Bowl in the 1930's. He is sculpted as a weary old man, tired and forlorn over the...
Cheers Bam. I'm going for twisted with this. Ironically using the Disney cartoon White Rabbit colours as opposed to the Tim Burton version. More to come.
Thanks All. Much appreciated.
I also started up on Broken Toad's White Rabbit. Still working on the mask. I will be changing the pink to a more salmon colour, like a worn ballet shoe.
Put the card art head paint on her. It'll avoid the need to paint eyebrows.
And he's done. I finished up the Great Depression bust from Mollies Miniatures and am very pleased with the result.
Next up up will be the second bust in the line, a farmer during the Dust Bowl.
Miriam will be the first hero I paint so I'm watching with interest. I think the red is looking good. Maybe add some interest with some patterns?
Thanks KB. There are a couple parts I can add some more shading too, but otherwise I'm considering the hat done.
Thanks Coyote. I'm pleased with the progress. It's been a learning experience for me. I've pushed contrasts further than I normally do and it makes a huge difference.
Cheers. Thanks for the comments.
It had to be bold. It's all about the textures and patterns. í ½í¸Š
Thanks Torn.
With th that being said, I cracked on and here is the result for the hat.
No major update. Started working on a brown tweed hat, but it was washed out by the brown jacket, so back to the drawing board.
Next up, grey hat.
Jacket is complete. He'll get a fancy plinth this weekend as well as a snazzy hat.
Mollie's Miniatures is a new miniature company focusing on resin busts and figures.
Pre-orders are currently open for the first two busts in their first line, The 1920's & 1930's.
The first...
Tremendous work! Really enjoying watching this whole thread.
Thanks BaM, Thanks Coyote.
Its really fun to paint. It's a great piece to try out different patterns and textures.
Blocked in the jacket colour and started on some shadows. Once the jacket is complete, I'll move on to the fancy patterned hat.
Comments welcome.
Thanks for the kind words Kuribo. It's always nice to get words of encouragement.
Managed a couple more hours on "Down, But Not Out". Still trying to wrap my head around how to approach his...
I revisited the face tonight and deepened some shadows and added another highlight. I think it's an improvement. As for the tweed hat, I played around with a rough pattern and colour scheme. Not...
Nicely done. Looks great!
Those tanks are incredible.
Another few hours put in on this guy. Fixed the eyebrows so he looks less like Eugene Levy. I'll push the contrast in the skin tones a bit more later. I also blocked in the base colour for his hat...
Thanks Coyote. Now I just have to up my skills on standard fleshtones. It's way easier to tackle blue and green.
Thanks BaM. Still have a ways to go on her, but I'll be happy to see the end of that mini. For now, I'll be swapping back and forth between large scale and smaller scale.
Withers: Here is pretty much where I'm at with Liliarch.
Thanks Withers. It is a bust called, "Down, But Not Out" from Mollie's Miniatures. It's my new company and this piece, along with another is on pre-order at the moment. You can find them on...
Plugging away with the skin tones on this bust. I think it needs some warmer tones in the the shadows, maybe a pinkish highlight. The eyes aren't quite done and the hair needs some more love, but...
Just started the face on this new bust from Mollie's Miniatures. Long way to go yet, but it's starting off well. I'm leaning towards a brown suit with tan hat. I may add additional details like pin...
Working on a few things at the moment. The latest will be this new bust depicting a Job Hunter during the Great Depression.
Thanks KB. I've been enjoying the game too. We meet once a week and get some time in. I'm satisfied with the progress so far, especially with my Flesh Golem, but am making the attempt to try to...
That's too bad. I'll keep an eye out. For me personally, I'd need to see more physical examples of work before paying for a commission. Good luck to you.
Hi Tee,
What sort of look are you going for with the painting? I'm far from an expert, but happy to give advice where wanted.
Personally, the green and red are too colourful for a...
Do you have printed examples of your work, other than what you printed for your KS?
Just a small update. Shaded in many of the hidden spaces as suggested by BaM and took a bit more time detailing the skin. The blue scales got a dark wash and I basecoated the armoured scales red. ...
Nicely done. Looking forward to the next ones.
Hi BAM.
Thanks for weighing in. I'm happy to get all kinds of tips, as I'm really trying to elevate my game. The more comments the better.
I see what you are saying with the shadows. ...
Next up on the list is the roaming monster, Liliarch
Just started last night. Put about 2 hours in. Still lots to do and clean up.
Comments appreciated
Looking pretty good so far. Nothing to complain about for tabletop gaming minis.
Whisper is looking good so far, but if you are looking to fix anything, her eye looks like shes about to cry. ...
Skin tones are much better. I would try to sand or shave off the mold lines on the figures though. They are quite prominent and its the first thing that my eyes are drawn to.
Looking forward...
Coyote: Once again, thanks for the advice.
Kuribo: Thanks for the kind words. I tired Vallejo's metallic rust paint for the first time. Its easy to work with, but still need some practice. ...
Looks like the dead centre of town..
I think that the car windows looks pretty good. I wouldnt worry too much about the window lines. Unless you are going for something more seamless, it looks like an after-market tint job.
great...
I like the shading on the Malifaux piece. Looking pretty good so far.
Camo is looking good. I would wash the creases with a dark grey or as you mentioned, a watered down Nuln Oil. It should be enough to give the impression of shading, without altering the colours of...
I invested in some small jewelry files that you should be able to get from a craft supply store. I picked mine up from Michael's for relatively cheap. Under $10, if i recall. I find them really...
Finally finished him off. Big shout out to Coyote. Thanks for pointing out and suggesting the unified wash. It toned down the brighter colours and made everything blend nicely.
There will be no...
Thanks Coyote. I thin you are right. It was looking a little too multi coloured. Perhaps using a blue - grey wash over everything? He's supposed to be pieced together from lots of other body...
And the work continues.
Some bone and blood along the seams of differeent body parts. I'll tone it down with some greys and greens to deaden the blood a bit. And feather the red into the...
Worked on the bandages and loincloth last night. I think I need to add a darker wash and lighter highlight to the bandages to give the old, worn bandage look. Maybe a grey?
Loincloth th just...
Added some more shadows and texture. Still a bit to go. Trying to keep reminding myself that this isn't a display piece. Trying to get it done in a reasonable time.
I backed the Massive Darkness game from CMON for the huge amounts of minis. Turns out the game is decent too.
Im planning on paint up the whole set, as watching the folks here painting up MoM,...
Thanks Krulebear. I'm fairly proud of him.
And some details
And some more
Let's try that again with less photos then.
He's finally done. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Hope you like it.

I attached his wolf cloak and painted it up. I have a little bit of moss and lichen to attack to the base, then I'll attach it to the plinth and finish the ax and crown. This will be entered into the...
Finished his shoulder plates. Blocked in the base colour for the wrist bracers.
Don't be discouraged. Expand your reach. There is a group of Facebook called @Bust. Post in other groups. There is still time. Good luck.
Thanks BAM. I'm still a little unsure about the transition between the hair and the forehead. Its missing something. Maybe a darker contrast?
Appreciate the comment, thanks again.
Home stretch. Hoping to complete this over the next couple weekends.
Dead heads done.
Second and sixth picture, inside tan cathedral; wearing a stylish hat.
I invested in a set of jewelers files to help with the seams and mold lines. One of the better investments that I made for mini prep.
Also a 1/2" wide metal file for making level the feet after...
Nice work. I agree that you could push some contrasts a bit more, as well as some further detail on the wings.
One thing that jumped out at me (correct me if I'm wrong) but it looks like the...
Thanks Zab. Nice tutorial for NMM. I'll keep it bookmarked.
For this case though I was looking for TMM.
I like the Maw. Not being able to see the face head on, I assuming that the blood is primarily on the teeth. With it looking like some fresh gore, I' add more down the front and the chin (if it isnt...
Thanks Foxtail. I had thought about that, but the truth is they are so thin already, it would almost look cartoonish. Perhaps Ill try to glaze on some darker greens and see how that goes.
Now...
Looks good so far. I'd add yellow spots.
Just reading through all these replies and thought I'd show the progress on the copper belly plate.
Thanks Maxx. I tried it out and i like the results. Thanks for weighing in.
Hi All,
I'm looking for tips on how to paint and shade TMM copper. Looking for a well worn/used copper finish.
Thanks
Finished up the lower half of the king. (For the most part)Frog on the belt and boots painted up. Looking for help on how to weather copper. Any comments would help. And be appreciated.
Worked on some of the details on the back of him. Just a small pouch and a barrel of gold. The gold doesn't show up well, but his wolf cloak is going to cover most of it anyway.
Still have to...
Just a start with the base. All cork for rocks. Will prime and paint tonight hopefully. I made the photo black and white for better viewing contrast.
Thanks Saint. The pictures really show off the shine compared to real life, but you are right. They need to be dirtied up a bit more. I used a dark grey wash on them, but I can go back and add...
Picking up momentum now.
I decided to paint his pants up distinctively dwarfish. The Goblin king holds a modified dwarf ax, a dwarven kings crown on his helmet, so it made sense to make his...
Kept plugging away on this guy.
Tonights mission was the chainmail. I'm going with TMM on this piece. I wanted to make the chainmail look well used and dirty. I base coated with VMC Oily Steel,...
Thanks for the input Guawol. I have glazed in some purples into the shadows, but I see where you are coming from. I think that may be why I'm not feeling the leather. It is getting washed out...
Little more work done on the goblin king. Focused on the leather belts and straps. Not 100% satisfied with it. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
Thanks Guawol. I'm wrestling with TMM or NMM now.
Bouncing all over the place here.
Started up this Avatars of War Goblin King.
Comments welcome.
so far so good. in terms of comments and criticism, it's all going to depend on what kind of modeller you want to be; tabletop quality, display quality, etc. I'm sure you have been able to see the...
I like the stripes on the horn. It adds interest to the white. Nice work
I've pledged for Massive Darkness so that should be arriving in the next couple months. It's been inspiring seeing you paint up all of the figures of a game.
The birch pattern is incredible. Can't wait to see it finished.
Funnily enough i knew that. They were considered.
Maybe when it's done, I'll model a rainbow shooting out of it as well.
Krulebear: Thanks for the vote of support for ten year old me, but let's face it; he was a freaking amateur. lol
The apothecary is all cleaned up, and primed. Managed to start blocking some paint...
Just cleaning it up first. My 10 year old self didn't have the forethought to clean up mold lines.
Hi Zab.
I took your advice and did a bit of research. I think ive settled on the Storm Callers Chapter. Its an easy lightning bolt insignia on the arm that even I can pull off, as well as a red...
Thanks Sicks and thanks again Zab.
You are right that there area lot of other options. Its a pretty basic piece (1994 i believe) but we'll see what I can do. I also found some old waterslide...
Thanks Zab. Based on that info, I'll likely go with whatever colours I have in stock. I'm not typically a Citadel paint guy. Looks like Ultramarine or Blood Angels for me.
Thanks Zab. I'd done a quick search of other images and assumed that there are different looks to apothecaries. Ive seen some with just white heads, though wiki states that its all white armour. ...
Hi all,
First post in a while. I recently had some old GW space wolves and various bits passed on to me. I always fell into more of the fantasy interest than SF.
That being said, I thought I'd...
Not a whole lot of painting time lately but I've had this bust for a while and I kept getting drawn to it. Still very much a WIP. The green has just been added to determine borders between mutated...
Excellent work. Looks great!
What stripper did you use?
Went back and continued a piece I had started a few months ago.
Worked on skin and cloak. Lion pelt started to be blocked in, as with beard and hair. Skin is still a weak point for me.
...
I'll have to use a dwarf or two then. :)
Nice description BAM. Thanks for this. I assume, as with most painting seminars, you will be mailing us all an identical piece to showcase our newly learned skills?
thanks Foxtail. I should give Bailey some credit as his "how to paint tartan" spurred me into it. It was slow going at times but overall, not too shabby for a first attempt.
Thanks for commenting.
Well if you are offering, I'll take tips on TMM please. :)
Thanks Octavian. Just a simple display base, no detail, just wood, then off it goes. Cleans up the stash a bit.
Now its back to the grind and figuring out what to paint next. I'm thinking...
Very nice work. Love the metallics. They really look worn and beat up.
Great pictures. There's hope for me yet!
Not the cleanest or smoothest, but it was also my first time doing tartan and plaid. Hardest part was the socks with the changing contours. I admire those who keep consistent thickness and lines when...
id be more than satisfied to have those as my gaming pieces. Well done.
Thanks Octavian. I hadnt heard about the app. I quickly looked online and couldnt find PaintRack but did find one called Paint Pot. I'm going to try this one out. If for nothing else, it'll help...
Cheers BAM. Bailey makes it look easy. I have acquired (over time) more mini's thinking my work will look like his, among other great painters here.
I've read your mantra and am working...
Very nice.
Thanks a lot. I have most of those colours. Just need the Ivory.
Cheers!
Looking great!
That would be great. I find with my historicals, I think I push the contrast too much, similar to the deeper creases and shadows in Fantasy figures. It's finding the right balance and I'm just not...
Excellent. Looks good so far. Looking forward to the next update.
It's hard to tell right now. For Orcs, I like all different colours, mainly dark greens, browns, reddish tones, etc. Goblins are more green-green if you know what I mean. (In my opinion). What...
I think you are doing a great job with the painting. The water looks great and the veins in the arms are impressive.
What my eyes keep getting drawn to is how he's holding the hammer. It looks...
It's not that scary. Take the plunge. It's all the same techniques. You just have more space to apply them. I still have to make my gallery. It's all over the place in terms of scales.
Thanks. I've seen a few Dr. Faust videos, but I'll keep an eye out for Vincent. I'm just noticing the difficulty more and more as I work with larger scales. There is a lot more room to correct...
The leather is incredible. There is nothing I dont like about this. Great work
You know what? I've checked it so many times, but when it comes to actually painting, I find myself referring back to youtube SBS, and a lo of them use Citadel, Andrea, or mixes.
Thanks for the...
Wow! Just fantastic!
This is my favorite so far. Really well done for far.
If you want subtle orange, I'd say the hilt of the sword and the handle of the bow. Both are central to the figure, will be easily...
I agree with Sprocket. Didnt realize the size. Makes me want to repaint a load of my Rackham barbarians.
Great work.
Try Bully's Wood (@Bullyswood) on Facebook. They are based in the U.K. and hes got a bunch of interesting bits of wood as plinths.
I haven't used them before but know of them through a...
Hi All,
Quick search for advice. Can anyone recommend to me which Vallejo skin tones they use for painting flesh? At the moment I am using, Beige Red as a base with Mahogany Brown, BR +MB mix...
Fantastic work! Really incredible.
Thanks Octavian. I've yet to strip it, but the shading i have done is all wrong. I may give it one more go, but I think its easier for me to start with a blank slate. The Highlander is still very...
Cheers Zab. I recently moved and reorganized my painting area. I've got more than a few started and unfinished projects so I'm going to try and play a little catch up.
Exciting! I look forward to it. I'll PM you.
These look great! Can't wait to see more!
I'll echo Saint's words, "When/how are we buying them?"
So I messed up on the bust above. I'll have to strip it and start over. It's a bit of a blow to the ego as I thought I was getting much better. Ah well.
To re baseline, I thought I'd work on this...
I really like the black. It turned out really well! Really sharp looking.
Ditto. My WIP looks like I'm writing in a diary and every now and then BAM pops in to tell me how I can improve my life.
There are more active commenters and less active ones. Don't let it get you down.
I care too. And you got the colours just right for his shirt! This is shaping up to be a very nice mini.
Looking forward to seeing more.
Very nice work so far BAM. You have done this mini a much greater justice than the box art your showed earlier. Looking forward to seeing it finished up!
