i am currently trying my hand at sculpting rogue trader style space marines, i was wondering if anyone could give me any hints and tips for sculpting faces in this style

I have two cans of white spray primer ( one gw one halfords). When i use them the paint comes out all speckly and makes the models surface look like its covered in tiny lumps. I tried priming with black gw spray and it was fine and gave a smooth finish. can anyone elp find a soultion to the problem?
