milliput and green stuff??

Not a sculptor myself but it has to do with the flexability and streangth when cured, or atleast thats how it goes for brown stuff and green stuff. green stuff lends itself to organic shapes is a bit more flexible when cured and brown stuff works good for hard edges dries very strong and rigid. when ya mix em you kinda get the best of both worlds. lol atleast I hope I\'m recalling what I\'ve read correctly lol I would imagine gs + Miliput would have some similar reason

Green stuff and milliput are both 2 part epoxy putties..Green stuff is more flexible and possibly takes greater detail whereas milliput is a hard putty that is far easier to sand and cut..Milliput can be used with water to smooth(it actually combines with the water ) as it dries whereas GS needs to be manipulated more carefully.. Using water, spit , vaseline etc to smooth the surface. I started off with milliput when it first came out but now use GS for nearly everything in 28mm

Generally this is to make a material with something like the best of both worlds. For some people Kneadatite is a little too waxy, Milliput a little too clay-like; a blend of the two is often considered to be a very pleasant midpoint between the extremes. But after a couple of years of doing custom blends of GS with something similar to Milliput I got some MagicSculp and haven\'t looked back, if anything it\'s actually better than a 1:1 blend and it\'s much easier to do. And it takes less time and effort at the start; if you\'re sculpting in stages over a few days this really begins to make a difference.

You can specifically blend Milliput and GS in uneven proportions. A little Milliput added to GS:
makes it hard enough when set that it can carve or sand better, but is still much like straight GS to sculpt;
helps it to roll out better, while still being fairly flexible when set;
reduces \'rebound\'.

A little GS added to Milliput:
improves the initial adhesion;
makes it less prone to going granular when using a lot of water to brush out, or lubricate tools.

i have used it in the past and it\'s not bad but it is such a pain to mix, i gave up.

procreate has similar feel to a mix of the 2 i find

well guys I decided to give it a try.when i mixed the putties together the became more softer and easy to flaten and what i also notiece that i got less stickable which i thought was a good thing! I notice it was also easier to get a smooth surface.

well guys i guess i got my answers by testing it out my self.

thanks anyways!!

Well yeah, but you know you can mix both putties together at the same time right? Just stack all four parts up and go to town. Doesn\'t take me much longer than mixing just the 2 parts of one putty.

yeah but i find that the milliput half joins with the gs to star with and becomes this crumbly sticky crap that smells and sticks like buggeration to your hand

It\'s a better idea to mix them separately, then blend the two, just to be on the safe side.

My main reservation about this is that Milliput can often be a right whore to mix, irrespective of anything else. From what I\'ve tried it\'s the worst for major finger stickage (compared to MS for example, where usually there\'s none) and on top of that when old, or any time the temperature is low, it can be so stiff it\'s actually painful to work with.

These are the main reasons I first looked for an alternative, but Milliput is also well known for having a limited shelf life - one or both rolls forming a leprous skin - while with MagicSculp (and I think Apoxie Sculpt too) they seem to last indefinitely.

By the way, forgot to mention a good tip - the best way of doing blends IME is mix both putties, then flatten the GS and wrap it around the ball of Milliput like a blanket. Squish it, fold it, squish it again, fold it, then start rolling between the hands. Roll and fold, roll and fold, and before you know it you\'ve got a homogenous blend, without much putty sticking to your fingerprints.

The roll-and-fold method is the best way of mixing all epoxy putties if you haven\'t tried it.

P.S. Always wash hands after mixing putty if you don\'t wear gloves.

yeah i used to do that. often the blob of milliput would break throught the gs and stick to my hands though
