:D

Hopefully you can see which one he is based on, otherwise my sculpting skills are even worse than I thought.

Lots more work to do (some of the crappier bits will be covered by furs and a cape), but his lower half is basically finished. The torso looks really weird, but I can\'t quite put my finger on it... maybe the arm is too fat also. This is a GD project for 2007, he will be almost scratchbuilt apart from the legs which are based on those of the =I= gunslinger model Slick Devlan, and the sword which\'ll be a modified 28mm Kislev one :) I nearly severed my finger removing the gun holsters from the legs, but it was worth it for the basic proportionary framework they gave me.

Anyway, I\'d be grateful for any advice :D

Thanks to Vincenti for recommending Magic Sculp, I\'m having a great time with it :D Also ig thanks to Demonherals for the sprues, they\'ll come in useful for this guy too :)

Cheers

looks good so far.;)
I see you like Kislev then... :D

About the torso - perhaps its a little too short? Also, I\'m not sure whether the cloth on the chest would crease like that...
Good luck on the project, i take it this is for the large scale model?

Anyway, great start.

Tell me about it, he can just be so good at something he\'s never really tried before.

Noooooo!

I would continue on this model, as a practice for your GD entry. Then you can make another one and then not do the mistakes on the 1st one, plus your sculpting will have improved.

Just a thought.

I\'d be tempted to agree with that But you will be the judge you did it last year in the YB...I can remember at least 1 model before lord castor which was going to be your YB..
This however is looking sweet and a real treat to see you pushing your skills yet again...
I would say this is a good time to stop and take your time going over the model taking out the rougher parts with a knife and file. Also filling some parts with Magi sculp or GS before moving onto the next parts. It\'s always tempting to think I\'ll cover that up later but it pays to just make sue as you go along.

Nice one keep at it and look forward to more progress.
r.e the parts no worries..

Granddad!
yeah I think it\'s the torso Bill, it seems a bit short, and the wrinkles aren\'t quite right, but I\'d be inclined to agree with Mooseman, carry on with this one the practise will be worth it
If you pop over to Roy Hunt Miniatures he has an excellent step by step in the Sculpting Tips section of his 54mm Ronin figure, It\'s got loads and loads of folds and creases
it\'s also a downloadable PDF
Also any books you can find on Bill Horan are well worth buying
keep us posted \"freaky\"

also this could only be eligible for the diorama or open competition I believe, and not the duel category. Vincenti had a great 54 mm duel of an ork and marine in this years golden demon and had to enter it into diorama. May be worth double checking this on your Golden demon winners day though.

Looking good so far Bill, agree with the practice piece first though, and its also great to see you competing against the big boys this time too.

(although don\'t get your hopes up as the \'07slayer sword will be mine!!! Mwa ha ha ha!!!!lol ;)

Very nice Bill! I\'m looking forward to seeing how he turns out - you certainly should finish him out of principal and for practice ;)

Well done!

Cheers guys :D

I did a bit more work on him yesterday, which involved taking his chubby arm off completely... later today I\'ll upload some photos, I have done his sword and the hand/wrist attached to it as well. Thanks for all the advice, the torso is going to get a lot more work :D

Cheers

~Bill

PS. This is hopefully destined for Large Scale Model category, my duel will be 28mm with lots of fire and brimstone

Hi Bill

fair play for attempting this! The torso does look a little short. Do you have any anatomy charts? It may be you\'re calculating his torso as 54mm, and as I recall, the =I= range are actually larger.

scale up any charts you have from online when you print them

try to fill out the arm completely before trying to do the armour. Think of the stages you\'re trying to do and break each down.....probably easier to do details last.

Full marks for your first attempt

:D I did my best. Folds are improved hopefully, and he will be even taller when I put his fur and shoulder armour on. The sword and hand are 28mm, but seem to fit very well on a 54mm figure lol the sword is converted, ie. lengthened and filed to a different shape. I\'m quite pleased with the shape of the cloth at this point...

Imagine! lol I\'ll do a load more fiddling, but that\'s it for now. The fruit of two days\' hard labour...

Cheers :D

Cheers :D

@Dave; not really. I like the imagery behind Kislev, and some of the models produced are great, but I\'m not really fascinated with them... :innocent: I was looking for inspiration for a 54mm build, and I saw that concept art and thought it looked just up my street ;) The fact that my Duel entry involves Kislev has nothing to do with it... :]

@Mark; thanks :D I will need to buy myself a bigger brush for this chap

Cheers
