6.5...

AL;

Have to agree with Matty on this one. Edit your picture to include a front view in this pic (so we don\'t have to cut and paste another URL) and the score might go up.

Note I say might. Having looked at the front view of the mini, there are a couple of things that jump out at me. The highlighting on the cloth looks rough. The skin tone blending on the face isn\'t as smooth as it could be either. There is also something about the grey stone color of the base that is bothering me. Not enough variation in the coloring maybe...can\'t put my finger on it.

If you fix the image and include a front view, it may still come in at a 6.5. Hard to say. I\'ve noticed that voting has gotten MUCH tougher on the site in the last 6 months (the standard seemes to be climbing) and there is at least one thread on the forums dedicated to that topic.

Overall this is a very nice piece, I love the way the bird came out, and its got a nice dark feel to it. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
grumb

Yeah, 6.5 seems about right. Some aspects of this model are very well done, others quite lacking. Lacking are the base (some sloppiness), leather straps (?) around the lege (sloppiness again), head (rough looking). The hammer and armor however are quite well done indeed as is the birdie.

It\'s actually at 6.4!

I would vote a 6 as it\'s somewhere between 6 and 6.5, but nearer 6 in my mind. Also the view issue is the same for me as per the others.

The base is really lacking in umph. Needs more highlights - it\'s stone, don\'t be afraid to drybrush it.

Your paint really looks pretty thick in parts - the armour and head for example.

And your blending from dark to light is very abrupt.

Overall a nice enough figure but not that much over table top IMO.

It\'s a poor submission. The mini seems ok, but you can\'t expect people to rate a submission by having to go and look at another!

You really need to grab the attention of the viewer. You won\'t do that without the front of the mini being the first thing you see. I personally think it\'s over rated at 6.5 purely because of this....

Painted it two years ago, aged 14. This is one of those mini\'s thats hard to photograph so it looks better in real life. But whatever.

I shouldn\'t have posted this thread. 6.3. I\'m taking it off. Thanks for the feedback.

But seriously, I\'m looking through my gallery and everything is .2 points lower...... Am I being sniped? :( This is really depressing......

I think your point are about right for the photograpy you have done, try and use photoshop or similar to take out the backgrounds, and take photos closer and you may score what you think.
And also everyone thinks there minis are better than they are! lol

.. My point is that I\'ve been sniped on practically all of my minis. Each are done significantly, as is my ranking out of 4300 people or whatever.

I posted a couple of new bits this week and pimped \'em here looking for feedback. Started well with some very positive responses then got kicked in the teeth overnight by low votes. It all evens out after a while and it really is the feedback that matters because at least then you know what to build on. Admittedly, I did contemplate removing my Shagrat when it went down to \"4\" but thought better of it.

ps I\'d be very excited if I got 6.5 for any of my minis but then I have very low standards in life ;)

I\'ve honestly been convinced recently that the occurance of sniping is FAR overstated than acctually occures. I think it does happen to a point, but between the system removing low votes and \"things evening out in the end\" it\'s not a big factor.

I\'m more convinced (and I\'m not saying this applies to you, just commenting in general) that a MUCH bigger factor on the site is vote padding. Through whatever means available adding high votes to a mini. Then as the score eventually \"evens out\" back down people yell about snipers! (and pad some more?)

Finally, I don\'t think there are many snipers active in the forums, if any. If your score went down .2 from posting it here, I would chalk it up more to tough love, than sniping. Forum members tend to be much more critical/honest in their voting practices I think. Sometimes this results in higher scores than the general public, sometimes lower. In this case, I think the fact the photos here aren\'t the best and you can\'t see the front of the mini have resulted in the critical eye of the forum voting slightly lower.

Don\'t get upset, or paranoid, there are just dynamics of the site, and some of them have little to do with how well you actually paint

I agree with most of what you say, but the problem is, my minis didn\'t have any new votes for a few weeks besides the one feautured here, and yet they all went down except for my worst mini, the White Dwarf.

If you cant stand the heat...

even post padding evens out now that all votes from one person get added together and averaged ;)

I also think these sniper posts are making people less tolerant and that the initial bump that was happening to the scores is happening less too

Out of curiosity does anyone have a copy of the pic before it was removed as I\'d like to be able to make up my own mind as to whether it is a 6.5 or not... ;)

Yeah, 129044 doesn\'t exist. I wonder if everyone is commenting on the different random entries that are popping up instead. That would be funny.
