Ainu's Mini of the Week: BLACK TEMPLAR VETERAN SERGEANT By Artur

Ainu's Mini of the Week this week is Artur's Black Templars Sergeant. I chose this mini because of it's eye-popping quality and attention to detail.

What stands out to me is an odd area that is mostly ignored on other miniatures, but here, Artur, made the chainsword as much a part of the sergeant as the face. The alternating green and grey patern really looks stunning, and the dramatic highlights are so well blended. On the same note, the green gems found embedded into the shoulder pad are so clear and help the miniature to distinguish itself as unique among other space marines.

A third notable mention is the subtle, yet interesting base, consisting of rubble, pipes, and other forms of debris. This is perhaps the best kind of miniature base, as though it does not draw attention away from the eye, it creates a kind of realism and setting for the miniature.

My critique for Artur is centred around his use of many different colours, as on Black Templars, they usually do not consist of too many. Of all the warm colours, I would suggest that one does not use two 'hot' colours, such as red and orange, especially when orange isn't a dominant or neccessarily important part of the miniature. In this case, orange is only painted on the backpack, and it would seem more fitting to be red or even green. It seems that it would tie the colours together into one miniature.

Still, that is only one suggestion, as I cannot find placement for any more. The rest of the sergeant is painted excellently, and my colour ramblings don't matter half as much as the quality of the paintjob.

Ainu's Mini of the Week, Black Templar's Sergeant by Artur, receives a 8.3/10.

I didn\'t find this as appealing as you. The skin seems a bit flat and the metals don\'t really look highlighted or shaded.
While the green on the sword is well done I have no idea what it is meant to represent. Got an 8 from me. (so only just lower)

I\'m thinking that he wanted to be original and tried making it look like there were gems inlaid on the blade.

I agree with you on the metallics, they do seem a little plain. Some black ink and more extreme highlights might do the trick.
