After a long week of Christmas with the relatives and coming on back home for New Years, one of the most outstanding thoughts in my mind was the second special edition article, as a follow-up from last weeks montstrously huge Christmas article. I don't want to dissapoint anyone, considering that so many CMoNer's lended their vote to the top mini of the year reveiwed by me. So, the article will be published to CoolMiniorNot on the eve of December 30, which is the morning of December 31 for many users.
I've done some of my most extensive searches yet this week to be featured, and in the end it was between submissions by KingM, Manumilitari, and Jericho, with the latter artist coming out on top. It's fitting that Andrea's Jack Sparrow miniature would be painted to a high standard such as Jericho's when Dead Man's Chest was released this very month, making it a prime candidate for this week's article.
A note before the comments and critique is that Jericho received the miniature on December 23, in the afternoon, meaning he didn't waste any time in getting the mini completed for his friend.
The strongest points here would be the resemblance that Jack Sparrow the miniature has to Jack Sparrow in the "Pirates" movies, which is quite strong in most areas, with some facial feautres being an exception. The clothing looks 'real' enough, the worn leather looks like worn leather, and the heavy coat, appears to be just that.
Jack's face, however, doesn't bear much of a tan like his movie counterpart, and the make-up around the eyes should be a tad thicker. In the 'Discuss Submissions' thread for this, some of the miniature's hair is judged as too dark, but I believe that if Jericho had painted the skin darker, as in the movie, the hair would be perfect.
The metallics on the sword handle are fine as they are, as is the rest of the mini, including the flag which looks simply fantastic.
Lastly, the wood seems one-dimensional, and drybrushed, with not too much care, which is probably a result of Jericho having to rush the miniature a little. Other than that, there are no obvious spots where he may have rushed, making this a fine representation of Jack indeed.
Ainu's Mini of the Week: Captain Jack Sparrow (1650's Buccaneer) By Jericho receives 8.3/10.
