Ainu's Mini of the Week:Dwarf Slayer By JTY

My mini of the week for this last past seven days is JTY's heavily under-rated Dwarf Slayer! GW's Slayer model are great minis, and it's surprising that less people paint them. They have 'fluff', huge rune axes, blue tattoos and orange mohawks. What more could you ask for?

Anyways, JTY seems to be adept at painting all of the tiny details. Let's start off on the skin-tones....

The dwarf's flesh is uncannily realistic as the blending is no less than perfect and the highlights up from what looks like a brown to a light flesh tone complete the look. But it gets better, the artist also gave the Slayer some traditional tattoos that look great and fit in the miniature with the Warhammer world.

The hair of the Slayer is interesting, as in some places, specifically the mohawk, it lacks in as much detail as the rest of the mini. But, the majority of the hair looks realistic beyond reason, or at least as realistic as bright orange hair goes.

Finally, there are the metallics and green gems. I never knew that green went so well with orange and gold. JTY seems to be a master at painting gems, as these are the most realistic that I've seen in a while. Note that it seems he 'flipped' the reflection dot and the darker area over the lighter area, which is different from most attempts at painting gems. And the metallics. What can I say? The metallics are as well painted as the skin-tones, and the gold especially stands out on the ax blade and butt.

Nice work JTY, awesome mini.

Ainu's Mini of the Week: Dwarf Slayer by JTY receives a 8.6/10.
