Regular readers of this column will likely understand my choice of miniature...
Realism? Check.
Uncluttered? Check. And we're off.
When an artist uses realistic lighting and authentic-looking wargear, with freehand scratches (personally I find it difficult to tell the difference between 2D and 3D markings) I feel that that certain person has ascended from the ranks of our fine hobby's vast majority, to paint as a canvas artist would. Authenticity, lighting, simple-yet-highly appealing subjects (in this case, the bust) are all trademarks of such artists.
Executerurdehod is one such artist who has reached this 'level' of expertise, where it is difficult to distinguish natural lighting from his painting shading and highlighting.
And on this piece, I especially appreciate that there is nothing that is 'flashy', just a gritty urban-fighter. That is what makes this mini beautiful.. Not stunning freehand designs, not SE-NMM, flashy OSL, complicated metallics, nor many bright, eye-popping colours (save for the eye lenses). Now achieving such an effect without these is highly difficult, which is why I love this mini and the artist's style.
Ainu's Mini of the Week: Exo armor Wulf Korps By executeurdehod receives 9.1/10.
Congratulations on a job well done!
