Note: Voting is still open for the Ainu's Top Mini of the year - http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=17326.

This week, I've noticed a huge influx of stupendous miniatures, moreso then usual. These circumstances made it particularily difficult to choose a mini of the week, and I even received a PM with an artist asking to be featured. But I look for my top mini, not someone elses. This is something to keep in mind for people who may also want to be featured.

When the dust settled, Wappellious' 'Female Witch Hunter' by Wyrd Miniatures was my selection for this week. Back to traditional fantasy miniatures this week, a Witch Hunter done in NMM and with a little OSL (though not to the same extreme as last weeks mini).

One of the first things that is noticeable when I look at this mini, is the lighting. In some areas, it is particularily fine (the robe below the right arm) and in others (the interior of the cloak on the Witch Hunter's left side) it is not realistic and the highlights are nearly as bright as the sections that would realistically reflecting sunlight.

If an artist is as talented as Wappellious, I think that he/she should make an effort to use more realistic lighting on these parts, as people will notice (considering that advanced techniques that use lighting directly - OSL - and reflectively - NMM - are present).

Perhaps I am over-emphasizing lighting, but it is simply a point of constructive crtizcism aimed at improvement.

Why I chose Wappellious' Female Witch Hunter, however is the whole rest of the miniature. The NMM is impeccably executed, and is best displayed on the sword's blade, the chain attaching the sword to 'her' back (and it is VERY difficult to hand paint NMM on chains, as well as the blue OSL from the sword), and lastly the sword's hilt.

Then there is the face, which isn't very complicated, and has a simple, yet authentic appearance. It is a nice change from the brown and red clothing and life-like base, which also sports some great freehand which is difficult to make out from the available pictures.

Other notable areas are the back of the cloak and the gold armour on the mini's shins.

Ainu's Mini of the Week: Female Witch Hunter by Wyrd By Wappellious receives 8.7/10.

I am a big fan of Wappellious\'s stuff. I love the very simple paint jobs he does. His bases are always outstanding and he is a Master of NMM. This is a very nice mini and painted to his usual high standard. I just wish he\'d do a vidoe. Voted.

yes, a really good example on how to do NMM nice. Especially the steel on the sword is.. mmmm.. breathtaking.. the gold is also nice, but not nearly as clean.

Also a comment on these articles, I love \'em! It\'s a great way to get to see great minis that you otherwise might miss in the large amount of pictures on the cmon -site.. Keep up the good work!
