Ainu's Mini of the Week: Higt Elf Lord By IlSommo

High Elves, two weeks in a row now they have graced CMoN's front page. Though this weeks top miniature is less of a 'big-ature' and back to more traditional standards.

IlSommo has painted up an excellent elven lord, that was appealing to me, not due to bright-colours or flashy NMM, but dark, realistic metallics that dominate the majority of the model.

It has come to me that while a knight is inside a poorly lit castle, in full armour, his armour would be far darker than usual, and that is the same with being outside in the snowy winter. You wouldn't expect armour (even the lighter, polished ilthimar of the High Elves) to be shining bright in a cloud-filled sky, which is likely due to the telling snow on the base. This is why the painting of the armour is so finely executed, it is dark and fits in with the setting perfectly.

Though the white on the cloak looks a tad thick, I appreciate that he could pull off a great miniature without extensive (or any, for that matter) freehand. The blue ribbons also look great and the highlighting seems just right.

Perhaps the second best part is the face and the eyes. Almost no renditions of any elves bear the predominately black eyes that they are supposed to have according to background, but IlSommo kept to the fluff.

As for the face, the skin tones are absolutely stunning and, once again, fit in with the background. Elves have clear, light skin, and the artist paid attention to that little snippet too.

Ainu's Mini of the Week: Higt Elf Lord by IlSommo receives 8.5/10.

Cheers on a fine miniature IlSommo,

Ainu
