Ainu's Mini of the Week: Selafyn, High Elf Hero by SilAx

This week, my top mini is one by a friend. He did not ask to be chosen over GD UK finalists and winners, but I chose his entry because one of my goals is to bring out underrated miniatures. And Selafyn is an expertly-painted miniature, that certainly deserves such publicity. Especially when it is so heavily underrated as this.

The high points of this miniature simply aren't given enough space to judge properly, and so I would suggest that SilAx clips his picture so it is focusing more on the miniature, and also that he photographs his miniatures with a less cluttered background.

Now to the mini itself, Selafyn..

My favourite points of mini is the head and the metallics, and the cape, which is unfortunately so dark in this picture that one cannot appreciate the intricate freehand on the front and back.

On the subject of metallics, SilAx is, or should be, well-known. For a fifteen year-old he is very advanced for his age and is an inspiration to those who would like to execute traditional metallics. The gold scale mail stands out greatly, and complements the silver ithilmar armour well.

The head is prominent to me because of the unbelievably clean skin and blonde hair, which can be difficult to paint at times, as they appear professional and the tattoo on the other side of Selafyn's face is a great detail that greatly improves the miniature on the whole.

Ainu's Mini of the Week: Selafyn, High Elf Hero by SilAx receives 8.7/10.

And congratulations to Victor (SilAx) on getting a job with Privateer Press, let's all give him a big hand!

That is very nice indeed. I just wish there were a better picture to judge it by.

Good feature Ainu! Keep it up.

An up and comer

I agree about the background clutter in the photo. Just cropping the photo would increase the score a few tenths. I would also like to see the details you describe (tattoo, cape details). Overall a very nice piece.

Keep up the great work on the reviews, too! I nice feature of the site that I have come to enjoy.
