Ainu's Mini of the Week - Special Edition: Arkaal's S'Erum, Sydion Ophidien and Alexi_Z's Theoden
The one month anniversary of Ainu's Mini of the Week calls for something special, and so, naturally, Games Day Chicago was held recently and so I'll have two minis of the week.
First, there is S'Erum, Sydion Ophidien, by Arkaal. You will probably remember Arkaal's work from last week, Sergent et Milicien Cadwë, and his skill is even more evident in this weeks piece. When I first saw this miniature, I noticed the NMM on the creature's shell, and the yellow scales. The NMM is perfectly blended and the scales pop out which does a lot for the overall image. The next thing I examined was the bluish-grey skin tone. There is no flaw whatsoever. The way that Arkaal replicated sun-light is just amazing and unbelievable, just look at the two armoured plates by the creature's midsection. And the base this week is more interesting seems fitting to have some ruins with such a creature around. My only critiscm is small, and that would be that the rifle wood is a bit too light to fully appreciate it, and if it were darkened, would stand out more, but that is but a small critique. A very solid 10/10.
Next there is Alexi_Z's Theoden, which I felt like including in this special edition. She entered Theoden into the LoTR Single category, and I would be surprised if anyone doubted it to place. Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of it at this time, but, I can describe it. Alexi_Z used her NMM's on this guy, and did so that it stood out and looked like a still from the movie. The second most striking part of the miniature was the freehand, the base had two horses masterfully painted using freehand, as did other parts of the model, like the scabbard, where there were another two horses in minute detail. And that is just from memory, after all, how could I forget this miniature? Theoden is one of the best LoTR models from every miniature range that I have ever seen, and I congratulate Alexi_Z on winning her first sword, of which there will be more.
