This week is the first time that I've chosen a WIP as my subject miniature, though I think it must be pretty close to being done. The painting is absolutely beautiful at this point and the conversion is just as great.
I'm thinking that the score is at least 1 point lower because the best part of the miniature (the painting) is down low, and people absentmindely-vote without looking down to see the rest of the miniature. Don't get me wrong the sculpting/conversion is stunning, but the painting is breathtaking and I certainly can't wait to see the mini when it's done.
The critique begins at the unpainted photos; the sculpting is practically faultless, though at the time of the picture some of the more delicate plastic parts look scraped, but they appear fixed with the painted miniature. The face shows so much expression, anger and righteous fury directed at the enemy with the bolter. The base is also notable for the sculpting and plasticard work, that it looks professional and fits in well with the 40k universe. Lastly, there's the leg and the Space Marine's hand reaching down where it he was injured, and this detail adds a whole lot to the overall presentation.
With the painted photos, the armour is brought out with my favourite style, battle-worn armour and realism all around. The subtle rust and scratches always win me over with their appeal.
Then there are the metallics, which look great with heavy rust and no really bright, polished areas. The leg and base work well with the miniature and contribute to the vibe given off by it.
Isn't hard to decide between two different styles of painting metallics? I've been between NMM and RMM recently, ah well, they both work.. ><
Ainu's Mini of the Week: Work in Progress by mortmort receives 8.5/10.
