Alignment different edge sizes

Hello,
I have difficulties understanding alignment. Might be a language problem.

It is clear, if depth and width of all trays are the same.
But they are not. What shall 50% aligned be, when the edges are of different size ? 50% of which edge the attacker's, defender's, the longest one.
Two units with different edge sizes will never both align to 50% or both to 100%.

When a non-solo, charges the flank of a non solo unit.

It has to be placed arrow to flank center (100% cover by definition) or ?
1. arrow to flank corner (50% attacker) - then no second non-solo unit can charge this flank
2. attackers front corner at flank center (50% defender) than less than 50% of attackers edge is in contact.

On a charge the attacker must "have space for the attacker’s tray to align to at least 50% contact with the target’s tray".
Must 50% of the attackers front be in contact or must be 50% of the defenders edge be in contact with the other edge.
If the first one, you will never be able to charge a second unit into the flank.

Please advice.

And as food for thought
Why not use:
the attackers arrow has to touch the centre of the target edge or
one corner of the attackers edge has to touch the centre of the target edge.
If not possible place as close as possible, but at least 50% of the smaller edge must be covered by the wider edge.
