anry nemo girl - sculpting practice, 35mm

hello everyone.

Here is a project I have been working on over the last week or two. I wanted to practice some sculpting, so I decided to try to sculpt this girl from a piece of CG artwork that I like - the artwork is called \'Devastation\', it\'s by a CGI artist called Anry Nemo.

The sculpt is about 35mm scale - slightly larger than the 30-32mm scale of GW or Rackham. It\'s about the same scale as the Ilyad minis - she\'s about the same height and size as Virago from Ilyad, for example.

Most of the structure and large parts like the clothing and body are sculpted from super sculpey, and other details like the boots, hair, shirt and other small bits are sculpted with duro (greenstuff), as you can see from the pic.

So, time for critiques - what do you reckon, is the anatomy believable? THe positioning of the clothing? Are there bits I should fix or change...? I\'m trying to learn, so criticisms are fine - they are great in fact. She will be leaning against a wall or column of course, as she is in the artwork, so just imagine it is there for now!

Good stuff. Critique - the wrinkles on the sleeve of the right arm are very evenly spaced and pretty much at the same angle. I would vary things a bit. Where the pant leg on the left leg meets the top of the boot (I\'m assuming the pants are tucked into the boot) the pant\'s just sort of end. It would look good with a bit more of a \'tucked in angle\' and wrinkles.

thanks shawn, they are good suggestions - the area where the pants meet the boots shouldn\'t be too hard to fix...the sleeve might be a bit trickier but I\'ll see what I can do.

matty - yeah I wanted the boots to be really big and chunky, like heavy-duty military style boots, but I probably went a bit too far with it - they won\'t be emphasised in the painting, as they will be a very dark colour and won\'t draw attention, but still, I\'ll see if I can work on them a little.

Wow... amazing sculpt :O I once tried to sculpt \"Molly\" from William Gibson\'s cyberpunk books and this was the kind of thing I envisioned... sadly the real result was just ugly.

Maybe just shave under 1mm off the top and sides, as i think the length is fine, just the broadness.
If the \"soles\" were removed and the lower part of the \"uppers\" was made into the new sole the boots would look less oversize. As it is they are kind of cartoonish.

you know actually you might be able to pull the boots off. why not try to emphasize them a bit more and give it more of an anime look as for the legs themselves i would carve away at them a bit. she seems to voluptuos for the pose. but then again if i did something like yours i would be crapping my pants because i was so cool. keep up the good work.

cheers

thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate the comments and help.

I think I\'ll give in a try to reduce the size of the boots a bit - I kind of like your idea no such agency, about removing the soles - sounds like it could work, plus it won\'t be too hard to do also. SO maybe I\'ll give that a try!

Wonderful sculpt. I am a little concerned with the left leg. The angle of it and the boot dont look right. Although if you clump the pants at the boot it will probably look OK. I also think the boots are a bit big but fit in with hte anime feel. Great work, cant wait till you stop practising and do 1 for real.

One thing that could be done to the boots is to simply narrow the part of the boot that is around the ankle\'s. It would accentuate the mass of the pants stuffed in them, show that her feet and legs are really narrow and in that it would make the boots look heavy. The slight exaggeration of the size of the boots might add to the anime look.Plus it would be fairly easy.

Man that is some sweet sculpture. If that ever goes out for casting count me in for a couple.
Plus a Big Thank you for the artist.
I\'ve never heard of him/her, so another one to look up and admire.

The clevage area does not look quite the same as in the image, there is more definition and roundness in the picture then the sculpt.

Very cool pic for the basis too.

On my opinion, sabestian is one of the greatest talent... one of my favourite painters of all time!

And i must say that he\'s becoming also a wonderful sculptor... i was already shocked by the skeleton almost totally sculpted ( http://www.coolminiornot.com/139467 ) and now the more...

You\'re improving so much sebastian, and i must say that your efforts here bring to a wonderful sculpture, full of dinamism and greatly detailed!

I love to sculpt and i i must say that the most difficult subject is a female character, but here you\'ve done an amazing work and an excellent face! :)

I\'m a big fan of your !

That\'s a really cool sculpt! I agree with the points made on the sleeves and boots, but they are quite minor points. You\'ve achieved a good natural looking pose and the anatomy also seems very accurate. This is the type of miniature I like to paint! :)

Cheers!

 EXPERIMENTAL SCULPT?!!!??

Lol - GREAT STUFF

I like it all - agree with all of the critique so far, and can\'t wait to see it painted- are you going to go with the same style as the painting...?

Have you considered contacting the artist for their opinion? I\'m sure (s)he\'d impressed at your work.

As for the boots, how about just shaving up to the toes and leaving that as an external toe-cap - a la 40k orks?

I love this piece, it\'s really very accurate and true to the feel of the artwork.

I do agree with the comments about the boots, if they stopped where the seam is between boot and sole it would be fine. Honestly I think the boots would\'ve been more stylish if they were ill-fitting and loose. Just me though :)

I\'d love to paint one of these, I\'m jealous too :D
