Article: AMotW: Freehand Ultramarines Land Raider By demonherald

Well I first want to commend hiis skill and patience at doing something like this. But, I find its totally to busy and random for my tastes. Theres no real pattern..its just random graphics. Also I find the green distracting. I think this style of painting might suit a Chaos vehicle more better as if a crazed tech priest went insane and scribed it with his madness.

I think if DH was ever \"mad\" enough to do a second one, and this time to care to develope a pattern, it would be increadable.

Hey don\'t hate me for my opinion, its just how I feel as look at the piece. The quality of the work is off the board, Im just not crazy with the end result.

Firstly ainu cheers yet again much appreciated:redface:

certainly was a bit of a challenge..

DFD I agree with everything you say to be honest....
As mentioned in the blurb on the piece this was purely and simply a practise piece..It started out as a bit of practise at doing shapes and went from there. The randomness of the pattern is a reflection of this basically it\'s been at my desk and used as a kind of sketch pad. There was no real plan at the beginning of what the end result would be... trying out shapes trying out patterns .. If you have a scan through some other pieces in my gallery you might spot some of the shapes from the hull on other models.
In the flesh the colours are a bit more muted the blue looking more darker but the freehand stands out the same as I wanted ....The photos make the whole thing look a little brighter ....

As it goes I am currently starting another \"more controlled\" piece that will step up a notch from this one .. The key thing about the whole thing is it has helped me redevelop and get my eye back into painting display style minis after a fair few years of army painting.

btw Ainu the mud mix was ......scorched brown dark flesh mig rust dry pigment vallejo grey pumice texture paste a pinch of static flock and some pva...This makes quite a thick paste with texture. This is spread onto the painted tracks then washed ith a little water to fill into the shapes...The flecks at the end are from building up bits carefully with the brush.
when dry the mixture is drybrushed with bleached bone then washed again with brown ink......
