Bad Habbits

So what are the bad habbits you know you shouldn\'t do, but can\'t seem to kick?
(painting related I mean)

For me, it\'s overloading my brush. I always get too much paint in the bristles and don\'t remove it before touching the mini, especially if I\'m not getting good coverage.

For me, it\'s procrastinating too much before getting on with painting. I get really into it when I\'m going but it\'s getting started. I always seem to find other little things to do.

This will explain why I have so few minis on display here!

i too overload my brush, i tend to get a bit impatient, not removing all mould lines, not waiting for layers to dry(again its the impatience thing), licking the brush to a point(really unpleasent when using future) , theres probably loads more.

Too often I find myself submerging the brush up to the ferrule (you know, the metal bit holding the bristles to the handle). Also, I don\'t always wash my brushes with soap as often as I should.

Mmm. Having my painting desk cluttered would not really count as a bad habit, Would it? ;)

Hmm, all of the above plus having about 300 primed minis all waiting to be painted (not counting the hundred or so that have been started - urg I really got to start seriously painting) lol

Really nasty ones....

Well, I didn\'t like that Miller\'s son, the one who was helping Saruman at the end.

And then there is that Lobelia who is always sniffing around Bag-end.

There really weren\'t that many \"bad hobbits.\"

Huh, wuz that?

Oh bad HABITS! Don\'t I feel silly....

;);););)

My bad habits include, (but are not limited to) Painting too thick, getting drybrush happy, not knowing when to quit (i tend to \'overwork\' areas, and the worse offense of all, moving to a new project even though the first one is only partially done.......

My worst habit is painting wet on wet when I want a wet on dry paint job. Closely followed by painting and then getting distracted. Then I try to blend the two colors; it doesn\'t work.

Of course, those two pale in comparison to the amount of time I waste on here when I\'m supposed to be painting.
:p;);):D;);):p

Had Bobbits

I\'m always finding myself painting the front of a mini and not bothering to do the back properly...isn\'t that annoying?

Also I\'ve told myself many times to paint inside out, recesses first and then top layers of clothing, armour or whatever - but it goes in one ear and out of the other. Though on my latest two minis I am adhering to this very strongly and the results are better than I\'ve managed up to now, so it does make things easier :). It\'s all about discipline, and I\'m really bad at the last bit of painting that finishes everything - I can spend 5 hours doing a half hour paint finishing-up job, and not because I overcook it. I\'m just unable to finish sometimes...know what I mean?

Yeah, discipline really.

Oh, yeah, there\'s that, too. But then again, HAVING to do the blade of the weapon after you had already spent an insane amount of time on the rest of the mini is unnervingly boring!!!. And it\'s worse when you have to paint AND attach that very last piece, as is often the case with some multi-part minis.

I feel your pain, Rev.:(

I\'m an over-zealous flash remover..

The one thing that is guaranteed to irritate me in a mini is when someone has spent ages painting a mini to a reasonable standard, but has been too lazy to prepare first. Mould lines, bent weapons, etc. I am a fanatical zealot when it comes to getting to work with the needle file, dremel etc. Problem is, every now and again I find I have inadvertently caused damage which I then spend an age repairing.

Oh well, hones the sculpting and GS skills.:bouncy:

Hmmm.....

SOMEONE??? seems to have fallen into the bad habit of changing their avatar every 3.5 hours:bouncy:

perhaps another case of Tuubje viruslol He seems to have gotten over it though, so perhaps there\'s hope for you as well.:)

Sorry for the confusion...

It\'s not my intention to be the Imelda Marcos of avatars but..

a) I just can\'t find one I like and...

b) They don\'t seem to change instantly anymore. Don\'t know if they have to be moderated now....? But this means that you are stuck with an \'experiment\' for a while. This one looks nothing like it looked on my screen and will be removed ASAP. So sorry dauber, but I am going to be \'trying on shoes\' for a few days until I find a pair I like. Then I will stick...promise!lol

One of my bad habits is not mixing paint. I\'ll see that two colors are to far apart, but I will try to blend them anyways and it doesn\'t come out smooth. The same thing goes for some mould lines or inconsistancies I don\'t think people will notice.

Well, Finn, Why don\'t you just crop the face of one of your minis and post that as your avatar?. Another trendy way to do it is having a composite shot of your face pasted over a Brom illustration ;)

Well...

The good Reverend and I are having a moustache growing competition (as you do), so at some point you may have the dubious pleasure of (very briefly) seeing us in the flesh. That will be a treat:bouncy:

Erm...*puts hand up*

Finn, I kind of fell away on this moustache thing, what with job interviews and all it just didn\'t seem the right image for an aspiring office boy...:~(

And I thought it was a full facial compo, not just the old \'soup-strainer\' lol.

I\'m sorry for backing out Finn - it seems like you win! I\'ll send you a fine comb in the post, for tending to your lip-tickler lol.

Oh, and don\'t forget the photos, as I can\'t wait to see them ;).

rev

p.s. finn, to find that magic avatar, the one that makes you complete so to speak, I suggest you nip over to Google and do a search on a particular subject but use the Images option instead of the word match. It\'s a beauty, and a mine of pointless avatar-fodder :).

And sorry about the moustache.
