Baltimore 2009 40K Large entry

For 10,000 years this monument and many others like it had stood dormant. The locals often speculated as to who or what had put them there...and why.

In the winter of the year 4013.07-72 the gems on the monument shown bright and the earth rumbled. With a loud crackle of lightning, a rift in the warp opened above and out stepped the Avatar of Khaine. Searing heat boiled snow instantly as steam erupted with every step of this fearsome creature. At the same time the other monuments came to life spewing forth untold numbers of Eldar warriors...The invasion had begun!

Sometimes a passion burns so deeply within a man that he just has to let it out...other times he is just painting a model for his best friend... I like to think that this project had a little bit of both. This was my main entry this year for Baltimore Games Day 2009. It took about 5 months to complete and a total of over 100hrs. I wanted to give a feeling of extreme hot and cold, not only in a contrast of warm and cool colors but also atmosphere. From the fluffy white snow to the bubbling water with steam coming up...to the water dripping over the edges of the top of the mount. I tried to make the whole scene come to life. Anyways, thats my boring story about he model...i hope you enjoy him!!! As always, comments are appreciated!!

Beautiful. The model is awesome, but what I am in love with is the splashing and flowing melted snow. Such a cool idea and it\'s executed unlike any model I have seen before. We\'ve all seen demon winning paint jobs, but I don\'t know that I\'ve seen that effect before, and certainly not to that fully realized level.

It sure is a beaut!

Stunning piece.

This is probably always the case, but the photos don\'t do your avatar justice. The contrast doesn\'t quite come through and you can\'t really see the incredibly fine brush detail like on the gold of his wristguards.

Impressive in a lot of ways and I\'m really glad to have seen this in person and out from behind the glass displays. Your nurgle orge was my favorite, though. I\'m not really a choas fan, but that ogre just made me happy to look at it.

Was nice to meet you, too!

Looking forward to next year! =)

That looks great but the photoshopping is fecking terrible and really off-putting... you really need to sort that out urgh! Try feathering your selection at least when using the magic wand tool.

Apart from that it\'s a cracking piece (ffs sort the horrible pics out)!!

Hey guys, I really appreciate all the comments...especially the ones about my crappy backgroud and pixelated cmon entry...OK, so I loaded a file that was way to big for cmon. I have that sorted out. Now the question is, what to do about the background??? So do you think a plain white background would have been better...the next question is, should I re submit??...can I get cmon to change out the photo and leave the original submission or should I just leave it as is?? What to do??? ha ha

This is really amazing piece and photo indeed doesn\'t do it justice. Try to sharpen the picture just a little bit. It might be me but I feel that it is either a tiny bit out of focus or was overcompressed. Keep black background. The mini is bright and doesn\'t stand out well on white background

for me a darker background would work a lot better and aso I\'d lose the plaque it really doesn\'t need it and nicely done as it is just looks out of place on an otherwise nice and balanced piece.
Great job on the base good idea and execution .. good stuff all round.
