Classic Battletech is back in business.

A 'new' company picked up the rights.

Just got the Starter Box Set.
lots of plastic mechs,
basic rule book,
history of the inner sphere,
painting guide,
poster,
and other goodies.

Wow, this strongly reminds me of Mechwarrior. I checked some sites selling them, but none of them had the scale posted. How big are these, Airhead?

BT's been back for a number of years now. : ) Ever since Catalyst Game Labs got the license to do product development for BT and Shadowrun. They do an amazing job of both. AMAZING!!!!! There was some concern about them being able to keep the licenses when Topps bought Wiz Kids, but they did. Yeah!!! And they have done an excellent job with the game. They've done an excellent job of making the various time-lines coherent (there's like 6 or so time-lines now) and of developing for the key ones simultaneously. They even have a set of rules for using the clicky mechs as a normal table top game.

They remind you of Mechwarrior because it's the game that Mechwarrior is computerized version of. ;) They are roughly 6mm scale.

Anyone remember Virtual World?

The 25th anniversary set is really, really good. : )

I know I'm gushing like a fanboi/marketing rep, but this is the game that got me into tabletop gaming 22 years ago. : )

Battledriods begat Battletech (lawsuit!) begat Mechwarrior: The Roleplaying Game begat the Mechwarrior video games.

I've got everything up to when FASA went out of business, minus the minis thanks to ebay :) .

Someone over at The-Waaagh.com did an unboxing and review of the starter set. Looks alright.

The mechs are the same scales as the old metal ones (Ral Partha? now at Ironwind Metals) BUT, they are not as well molded and of some sort of plastic. Not polyethelene, so not so slick that it won't take paint, but not like good old styrene either.

The scale works with N-gage model railroad scenery if you are looking at building out a game table.

Back in the heyday, I had our office print out a set of plans for one of the interchanges in Dallas at the right scale. Lots of foamcore later, we had a neat city board.

Wow, looks nice...haven't played for close to 20 years but I've still got a pile of books, maps, and a handful of minis in a box somewhere. Definitely looks like it's changed a lot since I played (I can remember the 3050 Tech Readout being new so...yeah.) Wonder if there are any local games...<<off to Google>>

battletech has been one of the most popular events at the local cons for the last few years - massive overbooked tables back to back to back. id say battletech has been doing well - ive even played a few games recently (on boards made with hex tiles - works perfectly). catalyst games has been doing a fantastic job. a new box set should be awesome.

Battletech...ughhh

I'll be honest, the only thing I know about the game is from studying the Battletech Players who used to play at our LGS. The rule seemed to be,

1: Take up two long tables. Even though you'll only be using half of one to play on, the other one and a half are for the mountain of books and leaning-on space.
2: Move the only fan in the store next to you
3: Never bathe, the player with the worst funk and no concept of deodorant is the winner by default of being the only person left conscious.
4: Shout, loud and incessantly about every rule. If a turn takes less than two hours you have not shouted loud enough or searched every page of every source-book hard enough for the specific wording you were looking for. Have translations of each handy because in Italian it might say that you always win at yelling.

Though I've been told that in other places it could be said of Warlord, Warmachine, and Warhammer as well.

Glad you added that last paragraph, because I thought you were playing Star Fleet Battles....
