Agreed.

What is it that you\'re looking for? Is it something specific, such as minis for a specific game or maybe techniques? Or is it more of a \"what do I, as a beginner, need to know to get started\"?

First, welcome to the forums.

Second, please make your questions a bit more precise ;)

Third, a paying member is someone who has a star next to their name, like me.

Unless you sign up to be a paying member, use of the site is free. You can read about the advantages of an subscription by clicking on the star.

I recommend subscribing, it\'s great :D

Cheers

well....get a new exacto knife, and start cleaning the flash and mould lines off the model (first things first). then go ahead and glue em together, and use GS to fill any gaps. you will then need to prime the mini...with...er....primer. lots of schools of thought on this - i personaly prefer grey, and i brush it on (thin coat). once you get this far, i suggest posting a thread in the WIPS forum.

I also don\'t know if anyone else here will agree with me, but if you are working on a budget, and want to figure out the raw basics of painting, Walmart has apple barrel paints for about 60 cents a bottle, and they work great for getting the hang of painting. I don\'t think they produce primer, but for 18 bucks you can already have almost 30 colors to work with and once you decide you like the game and painting you can upgrade to the games workshop and vallejo color lines, which are 3 bucks a pop.

I agree 100%. This is a great idea and one I went with when I started (all of 2 months ago). I wasn\'t sure if I would even enjoy painting minis, so I didn\'t want to get too heavily invested. After painting my first one I knew that it was something that I was going to enjoy, so I started getting better paints, brushes and minis.

You don\'t need to get the top-of-the-line stuff right off the bat. Just getting started and learning the basics, such as brush control, shading and highlighting, can be hard enough.

Other advice: read the message boards - especially any tip and tricks sections, look at what others have done and ask them how they did it (most are usually quite happy to tell you), and practice, practice, practice.

Most of all, don\'t get discouraged; this hobby is a learning process. Some (like me) take a while to pick up on things; others get it right off the bat. Stick with it, though, and you\'ll see definite improvement in no time.

Oh Yes woolie06 dougaderly is right, Apple paint is great and is well how we started here at the house. Also this is the place to be for painting your minis and a lot of great advice for playing too.
I am just thrilled you had such a warm welcome in such a busy and focused forum .
Post your works in progress you will find more help from many here.
Cheers
Tracy
Side note.... I think it is really cool that you all have such compassion for a new pup.

I would however advise Woolie to get a decent brush. The ones at walmart just aren\'t fine enough. I usually buy mine at Michael\'s, a craft store, and a good one goes for around $3.

Also, don\'t start with the figures you really like. Do a few that you are not too crazy about first, and once you get the hang of it try doing the ones you care about.

Just a couple of tips from someone who is still a beginner after 27 years.
