Bill\'s works in progress [update 3]

Hey everyone,

Well, I finally have some WiP stuff to show. First up, an Empire engineer (just a few sneak peeks of some areas )

Not much to say about him, only paintjob, no coversions. Or anything very interesting. He has a serious scar on his right eye, basically because I buggered that one and needed to make it look acceptable I\'m quite pleased with his flouncy sleeve-thingies, but evrething still needs tidying up. I plan to sell this mini on eBay :]

Next...
Lord Solar Macharius, my main project. Remember that thread? Well, I have finally got started on him. I have run out of black primer, so undercoating took ages He has some serious casting issues (thanks for the warning Dragonsreach!), and the sculpt of the face is a bit iffy. After three hours dremelling, he was ready for undercoating, and I\'ve now started the paint job The reason he has nor amrs at the moment is that they\'re a complex pinning job, so for ease of painting I\'ve left them off for now. Also I didn\'t give him a cape because it just plain sucked. And on the gun-wielding hand, I drilled off and resculpted most of the shoulder :drunk: He is a challenging mini!

Basic front view. As you can see, I\'m weathering him a lot, I was inspired by the work of Julien Casses and Cyril (aim high ).

OK, that\'s all for now. I\'d appreciate any feedback, hope you like them so far (apart from the empire engineer, I don\'t like him myself ossessed: ). Both are still in the very early stages, nothing is final yet :beer:

excelent work Bill.............there\'s some impressive techniques and styles you\'re trying there.....

nothing to add, really..........other than the silver highlights on the gold look wrong, especially on the wreaths on his back - if you\'re highlighting then it needs to be placed in the highlight place - too random; if it\'s scratches, I think it looks wrong on a high powered rich individual like this

I see what you mean Orb. I have tidied up the metals, but the scratches and rust stay He has come out of a long hard battle (maybe lasting years), and is leading his troops through a swamp. He is wearing ancient, venerable armour and he had to work through many hardships to get it. At least, that\'s how I visualised it I did one of his legs this evening, more photos up soon(ish)!

on the subject of inspiration have a look at Jacob Nielsens site for his metallic advice particularly his setting the mood of the mini could really help...JRN WORKS LINKY DINK

I have to agree with Funnymouth here -- I think just a tiny, tiny bit of highlight on the edge of the red would make a world of difference. Just a wee little bit.

Of course it could just be the photo too -- I certainly know how that works out.

Yep, I definitely agree there I added a highlight of white, then washed over it with red, this gives a thin line of very bright red along the edges of his sleevey-tubey thingies I\'ve almost finished him now (just a bit more to do on his left arm), I\'l post photos before the dullcote this afternoon and see what you think :duh:

Here, demi-final photos.

These show up a LOT of errors, which is good I can see loads of parts that need touching up, but I took about 30 photos before I got these (the sun is a bit temperemental as a light source). Feedback appreciated

Good one Bill, but not quite up to your usual standards. Face is brilliant though, but the gold is a bit messy.

I agree with the comment on the gold. I also think the grey armour parts are not highlighted enough.

im going to be really picky:
since the armour is all worn and \"used\", i think the reds on his sleeves and legs should be a little dirtier.
thats just my opinion anyway. keep up the good work!

I was thinking the same about the reds. The rusted gereen armour looks really good though. Gold does seem a bit random.
