Chicago Demon WIPs

Hello all, here are two shots of my WIP Chicago entries. They aren\'t the best, but it\'s entirely by lamplight because it is 10:00 pm. More pics of other entries tomorrow (5 in total).

This guy was a \"last-minute\" entry (using zenithal lighting) that I started with about 2 weeks until GD. So far the only painted areas are the helmet, top of the tabard, and thigh armour. The lamp was a little overpowering, and took away some of the contrast in the helmet, but the rest is as is IRL.

WIP base.. just need to paint the logs, touch up some rocks, a random monstrous snail, and glue the figure on (that\'s a secret.. for now :D).

looking alright so far, wont comment on the head as its reflecting a bit too much

but the robe, if you take a darker shade of grey and shade from the halfway point of the chest piece down, it should help create the effect of shadow...also if you darken this area, you can darken your creases as well, to keep the contrast and pop

the highlights are great

what colours you have planned for the rest?

Thanks, the colours will be pretty monotonal, I think. The shinguards will be similiar to the helmet, no idea about the cape, and I think the powerclaws will be painted in very dark metallics.

Hey the base looks great, can\'t make much out on the model itself though. I\'m working on my own entry for Chicago. But considering it is a week away now its time to crack down. Good luck mate, hope to see you there.

That base looks absolutley awesome Ian!!

The photo isn\'t great, and the helmet looks a little thick (although that may be the light from the picture)

Good luck for the competition and thanks for sharing, most people keep their stuff secret, spoilsports!

Unforgiven: Ah cool! What minis will you be entering?

OrkyDave: The helmet may be a little thick in addition the lighting, but can\'t really be too sure until I take better pictures.

I\'ll paint more on each the model today (the one that goes ON the base :D as well as the BT marine) and will 100% get new pictures up!

Thanks for your support, it\'s good to see all the time spent on the base hasn\'t been going to waste :)

I spent most of the day finishing up the base, started work on the two display bases (will hopefully complete these two tomorrow), and did a bit of painting on the Black Templar, but not enough for new pics.

So in the end I took a pic of the troll on the (95% complete) base and the pre-primed display base for the Black Templar. Unfortunately, the first picture is absolute shite.

It may not look like much, but that\'s a solid hour and a half of work I put into sculpting that.

yup, i believe you about the time it took on that base, haha ive already sunk about 6 hours into my 40k single entrys base. Thats good though, the longer you take, making sure the small details such as the base are up to par, really make the difference.

Keep up the good work man, and keep us posted!

This was first entered at Canada GD 2007, unfinished, and still is (that will be fixed tomorrow!). Here\'s a teaser:

I will edit + update this post with a ton more pictures of other figures etc, but photobucket is painfully slow right now. Give me a a few hours :)

That\'s too bad! Good luck in LA.

Thanks - I\'m happy with how the blade turned out, but the rest could definetly use some touching up.

New pics:

I need tips for this. This is the display base, the side is smooth, dark brown, round bark but I don\'t like the top completely black, should I paint a stylized design around the edge or a thick line in a brighter colour tracing the edge?

LaurasBirthday022.jpg

Don\'t know if I\'ll get this guy done, we\'ll see if he\'ll end up for Discord Toronto (Warpstone Painting Comp.) or GD Chicago.

Elf painted for Toronto, being touched up for Chicago. This guy will go on the *currently* black display base.
