First of all, some news regarding the contest. The father of the contest, Jason Moses, was so kind to write to us a message. I find this a great sign of continuity between him and us, and it's a good wish for everybody:
Contestants,
Well, it's really gratifying and flattering to see the Chick Challenge (CC) continuing. Mario (DocItalicus) is a long-time CC participant, and I was happy to put the event in his hands. Looking through the entries it seems that there's some really great work. Thank you for your interest and support.
Things have been going well for me lately. A motorcycle purchase and some longstanding conflict with my wife (as well as, I admit, some burnout) shifted my attention away from painting miniatures. I've always been lurking in the sidelines though; watching some forums I like and keeping abreast of new miniatures. In the last month or so I've picked up the brush again and spit out some minis. Alas, some of my skills are forgotten, and the eyesight ain't what it used to be, but I'm content with my recent work. I'm going to do my best to remember that, while showing off one's work is fun, ultimately I'm painting for myself. So what I want to offer all of you is a reminder: Have fun with your painting. Sounds pretty easy, huh? What I learned, however, is that having fun takes effort. : )
Take care.
Jason Moses
Well, Jason, you are with us and I really do hope to see you painting with us and showing again your art. Take care you too.
And now:
We decided to postpone the deadline of the contest.
This decision has been taken out of two reasons mainly:
1) we would like to hand out ALL the prizes kindly presented by our sponsors; we want many entries and we want the judges to sweat over the proclamation of the winners due to the high standard of the miniatures. We also want this to be fun, and would like as many painters as possible (even the less expert) to try and participate out of their passion for the hobby.
2) further the extension of the duration of the contest, it is allowed to attend real contests (this excludes any other online contests) as long as the pictures of the miniatures will not be posted anywhere before the end of the ChickChallenge. Specific cases in contrast with these rules will be evaluated beforehands (or afterwards) by the Arbiter, solely Judge on such decisions.
3) We would like to add the possibility to include sculptures (of female figures, needless to point out) in the last category (which would consequently become OPEN). From next year on there will be an extra category for sculptures only, but we would like to enrich this marvellous international competition since now. Which basically means: get your sculpting tools and show us your unpainted greens! So, the category "Gangs and Scenes", further the introduction of the sculptures (that go into this category) will melt into OPEN category, that now will include anything that doesn't fit any other coategory (like flat figures)
We would really like this great contest, which for many years has been a reference point for figure painters all around the world thanks to Jason Moses, to shine again in its well deserved glory.
Therefore, the deadline to enter your works is officially postponed to Sunday, May 25. Take advantage of this time-shift and throw your minis in the melee... of the CHICK CHALLENGE!
Have fun!
