Hi guys, my name is Jamie, I'm the community manager for Monolith and the Conan project.
It seems you guys have got the totally wrong idea about our models as well as our priorities, let me clear it all up for you
The game developers have already said that they aren't taking a miniatures oriented view, so miniatures material is not of concern to them.
This is entirely untrue, I can only speculate as to where you read this kind of nonsense. If it was indeed someone from Monolith that posted this then it is waaaay out of context, probably due to their English skills, which aren't always the best
We have
ALWAYS wanted the best models possible for this game. We wouldn't of spent as much as we have on sculptors if we intended to just muck it up with cheap production values after.
Also, as one die-hard model fanatic to another, I have always pushed for the best material possible and I whole heartedly believe that that is what we've got!
We are far above the dreaded
Mantic "restic", yes, we are using PVC however I feel their are a lot of misconceptions nowadays concerning this material. Using high grade plastic and advanced moulding processes you can get some great results, just look at what
Dust: Tactics and
The Others have done. Our models will be the same high quality as theirs. We've even gone lengths to ensure that the master models accounted for some of the known setbacks encountered with PVC moulding.
As far as working with PVC goes, I have a few
Dust: Tactics models in my collection (
Bazooka Joe is currently sitting on my workstation) and I have never had a problem with painting them, removing mould line (not that there's many of those) or anything else.
Lets scale things back a bit though. PVC is not resin or metal but you have to remember this is a board game. Using those two materials is impossible. Metal would make the retail box far too heavy and resin is way too fragile, half the models would arrive broken, creating a customer/replacement service nightmare. It's also for these reasons that we don't have plans yet for a resin model add-on/pledge.
We have to work within the constraints of the industry however that won't stop us from reaching one of our goals: Having the best models ever seen in a board game!
Hope that helps, if you guys have any other questions then please feel free to post them and I'll do my best to respond!
In the mean time, for those that haven't seen it yet:
Peace.
